  1. Nothing wrong with solid state. I just find my listening with tubes to be more enjoyable, especially for jazz and classical. It is different.
  2. Unless it is something on the realm of the Resonance reissues, I am done with hunting for cds. Too much music to enjoy already.
  3. Wild Burro Betsys on custom made baffles. A lone 15" Eminence Alpha providing the low end, connected to a plate amp. The tube amp powers the full range.
  4. Awaiting the arrival of a type 45 tube amp. Will be hooked up to a pair of open baffle speakers. I've been told the clarity and sound of this kind of tube is amazing. Will find out....
  5. Raydio is a worthwhile app to download. On it there's Shoutcast and Onrad.io. I use Onrad.io to search for and bookmark stations. You also have the option, through the My Stations tab on the bottom, to lock in on certain streaming site by typing in the URL address.
  6. If you have an iPhone Raydio may not be available for it. I can get it on my Android phone thru Google Play.
  7. Whoops? Can't you manually add it? Raydio is an excellent app that I have been using to get the stations all of you have mentioned. I can bookmark the stations and flip through them. Sound quality through ChromeCast Audio is very good to outstanding, depending on the station. Been listening to Chicago and San Francisco's jazz stations a lot.

  9. Decided on an OKCSC ZX1 headphone from China. $75.
  10. Any decent non fatiguing headphones on sale? For use with external player and smart phone?
  11. Audio only. This is different than Chromecast. It has to be Chromecast Audio.
  12. I bought Chromecast Audio to essentially replace the tuner function of my stereo. I bought a split rca cable to connect it to the left right inputs to my amp. plug the other end to an outlet. Download google home app, and it looks for the Chromecast I plugged in. Give it a name, change some settings. Then you can download a number of apps that work with this -- Spotify, Tidal, TuneIn, Raydio, Yatse, BlackPlayer, etc. Connect to NPR blogs, streaming only stations, what have you. You can also use plex to use it with wired hard drive servers. It apparently has 24 bit dac chip built in. With many stations the sound is flawless. Others you can tell it is low bit streaming. Don't use Google Play for music streaming, as it apparently has come sound compromises. One can hook up multiple Chromecasts in the house to all work together.
  13. So WFIU1 not 2, right? Thanks for these, everyone!
  14. Got a Chromecast audio and love it. Looking to add to a small list of jazz radio stations so I can listen to various stations across the country. Recommendations?
  15. Bought four of these. Killer deal!
  16. https://www.amazon.com/SMSL-50Wx2-TDA7492-Amplifier-Adapter/dp/B00F0H8TOC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1543260094&sr=8-4&keywords=smsl+amp Plug this tiny amp to your power hungry speakers and then weep at the glorious sound and power this produces. Combine it with a FX Audio tube preamp for $45 and weep some more.
  17. Washington DC was home to some amazing guitarists. Roy Clark, Link Wray, Roy Buchannan, Bo Diddley (for a few years) and others.
  18. Here, from the Comics Journal, an excellent piece on Stan Lee and his legacy : https://www.tcj.com/stan-lee-1922-2018/
