  1. On now -- Jeremy Stieg "Wayfaring Stranger". Up next Kenny Cox "Introducing Kenny Cox and the Contemporary Jazz Quintet"
  2. Wow!! The the whole Mosaic Store is closed!!!! OK, who bought up EVERY Mosaic set -- There were still a couple I still wanted to pick up!!!
  3. Can't believe that cat doesn't even flitch during the performance!! Maybe it had a few too many whiffs of...well you know, it was the '60's!!!
  4. Hi djcavanagh, Sorry it took a while to get back to you but I hear the same thing on Disc 3 Track 2 at 6:44 -- it too must be in the master tape!! GREAT music even with a few "blemishes"!!!! JohnT
  5. I heard the same thing on Disc 1, track 2 (can't remember hearing anything on Disc 3). I requested a replacement Disc 1 from Mosaic -- I had explained to them the "distortion" on Disc 1 track 2 in detail -- they just sent me a replacement right away -- no questions asked (they have the BEST customer service!!!). But the same "distortion" was on the replacement Disc 1 -- must be in the master tape -- I wish Mosaic would have mentioned it in the CD notes.
  6. Went from the JJJ set earlier to the Jazz Crusaders to close out the day -- it's been a good "Mosaic" Day!!!!!
  7. Based on the last chance discussions, I'm visiting an old friend -- the J.J. Johnson set starting with Disc 4. Had it for years but it's one of my favorites!!
  8. Thanks couw -- I couldn't remember which Art Blakey CD's contained the "Pisces" bonus tracks. I love both those CD's, I'll have to go back and take a listen again. I had thought of putting my own Blakey "CDR set" together for myself from all the single CD's that I have but never got around to it -- of course, I wouldn't have the fantastic book that always comes with the Mosaic sets. I have over 20+ Mosaic Sets (plus all the Selects) but I could never sell any of them -- I'd have to sell off all of my other CD's before I ever unloaded a Mosaic!!!
  9. I believe the Art Blakey "Pisces" tracks were added as bonus tracks to one or more of the other CD's so I think it is all available now.
  10. My favorite Kenny Burrell is "Guiding Spirits" -- a live Quartet date with guitar, vibes, bass and drums. If you can find it, I'd give it a big

    BLAH!

TroyK I can totally relate to what your going through because I've been going through a similar situation recently. Up to about a couple of months ago, I was playing exclusively my upright bass on all my gigs but was getting tired of dragging it around and felt like I was in a rut musically too. After listening to the Miles "Cellar Door" box set I really got inspired by Michael Hendersons electric bass playing so I decided to start playing my electrics again -- a P-Bass and a Fretless Jazz bass copy -- on some of my regular jazz gigs. After some initial grief from the other "purist" band members, they kind of got used to it and actually learned to like it (or at least they don't say anything more about it). So now I'm switching back and forth between acoustic and electric whenever the mood strikes me. For me, it's been a refreshing change of pace and it has really helped my creativity a lot. I've also gone back to listening to a lot more electric bass recordings too. I love playing the upright the most but I feel like I've kind of come to terms with my "electric" side and I am having a lot of fun with it (and the electric is so much easier to carry -- I can make one trip with all my gear from the car to the gig with the electric).
  12. Sam Rivers "Contrasts" (ECM) - Awesome!!! ... and one I have never seen on CD in the States!!!
  13. I have heard that the great bassist, George Tucker, died onstage but I've never been able to confirm it. Does anybody have any information on how George died? Actually, George is one of my all time favorite bassists but it's been difficult to get much information on his life. Any leads?
  14. I have that Stan Getz/Miles Davis CD "Tune Up". The Getz with LaFaro isn't the greatest sound quality but is listenable -- LaFaro takes some awesome solos!! That has to be out there somewhere in better quality -- wouldn't you think? Anyways, I posted this elsewhere, but for those interested there is a new Japanese CD entitled "1960" of previously unreleased material from a trio session with Scott LaFaro, Steve Kuhn and Pete LaRoca (not Roy Haynes who I believe is the drummer on the "Tune Up" CD). It's a short CD (30 minutes) but it has two interesting takes of them running through Mile's "So What". Interesting to hear Scott LaFaro's take on that tune as well as his working in a trio with Kuhn instead of the more well know Bill Evans Trio.
  15. I think the discs are on backorder due to the "speed correction" issue. I requested a replacement and received an email from them stating they were on backorder but would be sent out as soon as they received the corrected discs. As stated in another post, I've always had good luck with speedy delivery from them but I think this issue has set them back!!
  16. Thanks BFrank for the info. I went to the Steve Hoffman Forum and checked it out. Interesting discussion. Now I'll have to go back and check my disc to see if it has the "speed" issue -- I don't remember this as an issue but I've only listened to it once so far. Thanks again for the tip off to this!!
  17. Thanks Jazzbo for the answer to the "speed issue" question. Another great thing about Dagger Records -- I've always had good luck with them in receiving the CD's right away!! It only takes them a couple of days to get the CD to me way down here in Florida (one time I had the CD the next day -- I was amazed)!!!! Dare I say they've been almost as good as Mosaic in getting the product to me -- awesome!! I just wish they'd speed up their re-issue program -- I want more!!!
  18. I love ALL of these Dagger "authorized" bootlegs!! I really like this new one too although the sound isn't the best but it's definitely listenable (I never heard the un-authorized bootleg of this concert so I don't have anything to compare it to). BFrank -- where did you hear about the "speed" issue on this? -- it's hard for me to tell listening to it -- I'm just curious.
  19. Delivered yesterday -- It's in my little hands but there's no time to crack it open and listen with all the Holiday Happenings!! A mighty big Thank You to those that turned me on to the CDUniverse Pre-order!!! Happy Holidays to Everyone
  20. WOW - I'd love to hear Stinson with Miles Davis!!!!! I never heard of that concert at Berkeley BTW, I think the John Handy CD with Stinson is called "The New View" -- it's a good one!! I think it was mentioned in the Oblique RVG booklet (which I don't have with me here at work). Also, I don't want to hijack this thread or get too off topic but if there are any fans of Scott LaFaro out there --there is a new Japanese CD entitled "1960" of previously unreleased material from a trio session with Scott LaFaro, Steve Kuhn and Pete LaRoca. It's a short CD (30 minutes) but it has two interesting takes of them running through Mile's "So What". Interesting to hear Scott LaFaro's take on that tune.
  21. I've been a huge Albert Stinson fan for years. For those wanting to hear more of him you should check out the recent Pacific Jazz Piano Trio's Mosaic Select (Disc 3 with Clare Fischer with two previously unreleased tracks) and the Joe Pass Mosaic set (Disc 1) and some Chico Hamilton and Charles Loyd discs if you can find them. There is also great John Handy CD with Stinson on it (but the name of it escapes me -- I think it is now OOP). What a great sound he had and to die at such a young age -- similar to Scott LaFaro!! Oblique is one of my favorites too -- have the Japanese CD and bought the RVG too -- love the RVG!!!
  22. Thanks!!!!!!! I think my copy is defective.
  23. Pacific Jazz Piano Trio Mosaic Select Disc 3 Clare Fisher with Gary Peacock and Albert Stinson -- Fantastic!!!!!!!!
