  1. Been listening to this particular Tony Williams group all week-it all started with listening to Mulgrew Miller.
  2. The Hot 5's and many of the Hot 7's (Discs 1 and most of 2).
  3. Finding the complete Verve recordings of Bud Powell to be exactly the correct choice-a disc a day-this week.
  4. Lots of good Jabbo Smith, but for some reason, I am particularly fond of Monette Moore's reading of Don't You Leave Me Here.
  5. In my youth it was common for drug stores, grocery stores, etc to have a small selection lp's for sale. Along with Mingus Ah Um, Ellington Indigos was seemingly omnipresent in these small clusters of record offerings. I, of course, purchased it, but failed to understand it for many, many years. Luckily I have a copy now as it is strangely challenging to find in the digital domain.
  6. I really like trolling through So What Are You Listening To Now as I am often reminded of great records that I need to reinvestigate. This one, on the other hand, I knew nothing about, and it definitely looks like one I need to know.
  7. Now there's one from which I definitely got my money's worth! Jumpin' Like Mad also worked for me big time-and it does have a Lester Aladdin track. https://www.discogs.com/release/9828776-Various-Jumpin-Like-Mad-Cool-Cats-Hip-Chicks-Non-Stop-Dancin
  8. My old friend Bob Palmer used to talk about this a bit... He had also had a hand in a film that documented Randy Weston's group going to Morocco to play with the Master Musicians of Jojouka. It was a striking film which was apparently rejected by whoever had commissioned it. I managed to view a VHS copy...
  9. Stanley Booth is a Memphian and, I believe, lives in my neighborhood. He has a collection about Memphis musicians called Rhythm Oil that I can hardly recommend highly enough.
  10. I have an interview disc like this for Joe Henderson as a promotion for one of his Verve records.
  11. Wow. I am entirely unfamiliar with Long Way Home-I need to listen to this. I was enjoying this one today:
  12. Wasn't too enthused about this, but I have found that it helped contextualize a period of FZ's music for which I have had very little use over the last few decades.
  13. The TV series Atlanta's first show of the season ended with Brown Rice by Don Cherry. The next episode slipped in a small dose of Calypso Frelimo by Miles.
  14. Yes-most definitely! That was one of those great Mosaic box sets where I had none of the music in my collection before I got the set. I am particularly fond of the HRS box, and the Capitol Records box is not far behind.
