  1. I will try and remember. [Waldron-Lacy] But it won't arrive until next week. By then other posters will likely have shared impressions.
  2. Drawn in by clickbait thread title. This is all "news" to me. But I'm proud to say that I had never heard of Chris Pratt before seeing this thread. 🤣
  3. This is pretty good, though the subject matter will thin out the potential audience. Per Wiki: The Zone of Interest is a 2023 historical drama film written and directed by Jonathan Glazer, co-produced among the United Kingdom, the United States, and Poland. Loosely based on the 2014 novel by Martin Amis, the film focuses on the life of Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig, who live with their family in a home in the "Zone of Interest" next to the concentration camp. Christian Friedel stars as Rudolf Höss alongside Sandra Hüller as Hedwig Höss.
  4. Just bought the new Waldron/Lacy (with others) Mighty Warrior Live in Antwerp, and threw in the Contemporary Jazz Quintet's Location album (which looks interesting).
  5. People keep track of them. 😉 In USA, scarce as hen's teeth. Surprisingly many in Europe. 2024 listings (all Wagner, incl Ring) : Europe US/Canada
  6. Excellent, enjoy! I've seen 2 staged Rings, one in Bayreuth (Barenboim cond, Kupfer design) and the other in NYC (Levine cond, I dunno who designed). Used to have a VHS of the Boulez-Chéreau Ring, watched it quite a few times, but eventually ditched the player and donated the video.
  7. RIP. That Live Fillmore East (2 LP) album was one of the very first I purchased.
  8. Google shows some appearances through mid-2023. I have a CD ("Recursive Tree" John Blum / David Murray / Chad Taylor on Relative Pitch) recorded 12/21/22.
  9. Yeah, I'm being a little unfair. I will check reviews and feedback when Freeman's book is published. I'm more likely to purchase Young...Freeman probably the library route (if available) or perhaps Kindle.
  10. There's another Creative Music Studio Improvisors Orchestra event in Kingston next Sunday 4/28 https://creativemusic.org/events/ Not quite as gaudy a lineup as the last one (3/31), but I enjoyed that one so much that I'm going on the 28th.
  11. Intending to be there. And just announced today: Joe McPhee also at the Lace Mill (Kingston) 5/19. Music and spoken word w. McPhee, Fred Lonborg-Holm and Michael Bisio.
  12. I still read jazz books, but have gotten much more selective, especially regarding titles I have to purchase rather than borrowing via interlibrary loan. I can envision going for a well-written and researched Cecil Taylor bio, but would wait to see some reviews/feedback before buying. I admit to rarely reading liner notes (beyond a cursory scan) any more.
  13. Might be a generational / old fart thing on my part, but if the Young book can be counted on to appear I'll pass on Freeman.
  14. Sorry, I was referring to my Belgian classical purchase. I checked (my most likely suspects: DMG, Squidco, DG and Forced Exposure) yesterday and did not find any US dealers stocking the Ahmed box. Although Dusty Groove showed an upcoming 2-LP set on Astral Spirits (iirc) that might be a subset of the box.
  15. Me too. I put one in my cart to check shipping costs and was pleasantly surprised. Second time it's happened recently: I bought some CDs direct from Graindelavoix (classical vocal ensemble) in Belgium and US postage was also reasonable. The package was cheaper than it would've been buying from US dealers. 👍
  16. Based on the bandcamp site quoting price in Swedish Krona (SEK), I assume Sweden. I initially stopped there, BUT on review the shipping fee is actually quite reasonable, although I expect the effective exchange rate (net of credit card or Paypal surcharge) to be less favorable than quoted: "that’s $45.69 USD, plus $9.59 shipping for United States."
  17. I really enjoy this Mosaic. Even though the individual albums arguably aren't great, it's an excellent package. Sal Salvador was a big discovery for me here, very nice selections.
  18. https://cunneen-hackett.org/calendar/ (scroll down) Elysium Furnace Works presents Chourmo Friday, May 17, 2024 @ 8:00 pm / VBI Theatre – 12 Vassar Street EFW presents this cataclysmic trio of leaders — guitarist David Torn, alto saxophonist Tim Berne and drummer Tom Rainey — certain to ignite fire, intricate abstraction and passionate forward-motion. Also an April 27 concert: Fay Victor's SoundNoiseFunk — the superlative creative vocalist Victor convenes her acclaimed, kaleidoscopic supercollision of maverick virtuosi — guitarist Joe Morris, soprano saxophonist Sam Newsome and drummer Reggie Nicholson — to unleash music of unrelenting energy unlimited by tradition.
  19. Most excellent, thanks for posting this. I thought about last night's program at Tubby's, but too late given a busy Monday at work. Also missed yesterday's Lace Mill event due to conflict with an Indian music series I attend. Joe McPhee appears in Poughkeepsie quite often, but that's a bit far for me.
  20. Thanks, Rod and Niko. A couple of early string quartets are on Youtube, but from a completely different recording: SQ #1 SQ #3 They sound pretty good, but 7 CDs of quartets in "modernist idiom" is a lot for all but committed enthusiasts. I'll look for more to audition.
  21. Listening on bandcamp, going to purchase. Trio w. Michael Bisio, Newman Taylor Baker. Bisio regularly hosts music events not far from me and I've often heard him live with Shipp in various configurations.
  22. I'm a string quartet buff and extremely curious about the 7-CD volume of same. But unlikely to take the plunge on such a big package. So the Chicago Symphonies would be more likely.
