  1. Happy Birthday, Chuck! I hope it's a good one.
  2. I had something similar happen to me. I gladly gave him a couple of bucks. I like honesty too.
  3. Same here. I guess it's good since I'm often being hit up for money by someone who has "just run out of gas." lol
  4. My wife's mom still writes checks. She's the type of person who doesn't push herself in any way. Ten years ago, we tried to show her how to use her debit card, but she just freaked out and still writes checks. Arg! I do think it is hilarious when a store takes the check the customer handed them, scans it into the register, and then immediately returns it to them. I love the befuddled look on the face of the check writer.
  5. I think a driver at .05 is far less dangerous than an idiot who is tailgaiting someone. I wish the laws would crack down on this; it is a real problem in my town. I'm tired of it.
  6. I hope you have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
  7. I love the May '77 shows (and I usually listen to the Dead through 1974). I wish I had the dinero to pick this set up.
  8. Thanks for the heads-up, BeBop! I ordered my Woody Shaw box today.
  9. It's nice to be among (crazy) friends. Thanks for the tip about the sound quality of the Columbia. I was torn because of the extra live tracks and have been itching to get it. I guess you have put me over the edge and I'll have to get it when I can.
  10. Anyone know if this will be reissued domestically? - meaning in the US? Been tempted by this set, even though I have the Mosaic (which I'd probably then sell). I'm not sure if it will be reissued domestically, but I've had great success ordering boxes from this series, cheaply, from the UK sellers on the Amazon Marketplace. I'm hoping with this reissue, it will be a bit cheaper than it has been previously. I recently ordered the 7 CD 1971-1975 Weather Report box for $22 with shipping. I'm hoping the Shaw set will be priced in a similar manner. I'm on the fence about getting it since I also have the Mosaic set. It was my first Mosaic set, so I'll probably hang onto it even if I get the Complete Collection. I'm also tempted by the new Woody Shaw Mosaic even though I have all the 32 Jazz releases and most of the albums on vinyl. I keep telling myself I don't need it, but I keep having that thought, "But it's Woody Shaw!" I must be crazy! lol
  11. :tup I wish we had a "Like" button around here. I love when an artist brings something new to the table. I can't count the number of hours I've sang along to Nilsson records and marveled at his talent. It's such a heartbreak what happened to his voice.
  12. Congratulations on the dream job! It looks like it must be an amazing place to work. I wish you great happiness and success in your new position!
  13. My grandpa had a '49 Merc and I've always had a soft spot for the old Fords. I'd love to have one of this vintage. I learned to drive in a '64 Ford Galaxie with a 427 in it. My grandpa lived in the desert out by Edwards AFB (he worked there for years) and he taught me how to "punch it!" on the deserted roads. What a blast!
  14. It's a trip reading this thread after all these years. It's sad to see all the friends that have moved on. We used to have so much fun around here. I miss it. It's too bad the animated .gifs don't work anymore either.
  15. In that case you need a Tardis to take you to Tower Sunset Boulevard circa 1999 with the racks full of Conns, all of the Fantasy reissues in stock, a whole shelf of Japanese imports and the early Sony/Miles boxes just hitting the tarmac ! Totally agree with regard to the personal feelings for Mosaic. They have led to some wonderful musical discoveries for me. Don't usually pre-order these days though (the Mingus was an exception) and if I can buy here in Europe that's the route I prefer to take. US/Europe shipping $ hit is a real pain.. I lived in SoCal back then. It was a paradise for me. I used to shop at the Sunset Tower along with Aron's when I'd drive up from OC. In many ways, this is a great time since I can get so many things online at blowout prices, but it isn't the same. I still dream of the record stores I used to haunt. I spent nearly every lunch hour at my local Tower. I think they thought I was a lunatic or something. lol I had no idea how good we had it back then, but at least I enjoyed it as much as I could.
  16. Wow! I love Revolution 9. It's so cool that they actually performed it live. Thank you for sharing this!
  17. I purchased my last regular Mosaic set in 2004 and my last Mosaic Select in 2007. Man, this has been a long financial rut for me. Fortunately, I bought the Johnny Smith on its release. I check their website, every so often, and receive emails from them, so I follow the status of the sets. It has been so hard seeing new sets come and go. I am not of fan of this century (the 21st). I miss the good ol' days too. I still dream about all the shopping I did in the 90's.
  18. I put it on this evening, though I didn't realize it is over 2.5 hours, so we're watching it in phases. Made it through the gas station scene. I'm watching it tonight too! It's such a great movie.
  19. He was one of my favorites too! He made the world a better place. He was so great in It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. I watch it every year or so. I love when he rides into the gas station on the little girl's bike and proceeds to tear the place apart. He was so silly!
  20. Happy Birthday!!! I'm glad it's a good one.
