  1. Thanks for the tip! I've listened to samples from all their albums and so far, Signify is one of my favorites.
  2. Thank you for sharing this! I bought the reissue of Eden's Island in the 90's and greatly enjoyed it. His story is fascinating.
  3. Happy Birthday, Tom!! I hope you have a great one!
  4. I wish you well on your job search. It's so hard being between jobs and I hope you can keep your spirits up. I've been noticing that there seem to be more jobs out there.
  5. I'll definitely check out the dvds when I can. I took your recommendations and I've got In Absentia on order. I like starting in the middle and working my way back and forward.
  6. Thanks! I've lost touch with most contemporary rock music too and have been hearing about Porcupine Tree for a long time. So far, I've been enjoying what I'm hearing.
  7. That's so cool! I would love to get "geeky" over a band again.
  8. That's a great idea. I will work forward and backwards. I've been listening to samples of the various albums on Amazon and it's interesting seeing the progression. I actually like the 90's albums quite a bit too.
  9. Thanks so much, Shawn and Lon! I will take your advice.
  10. There's a good country song there just waiting to be writen. It's weird, I loved spending time at the library (and actually volunteered there and then had a "real" or at least a paying job there while in high school). But I never felt the need to have encyclopedias at home -- maybe because I was at the library so much... There sure is! I'll be sure to use the word, "Drat!" in it. I ended up spending a lot of time in the library when I was a kid. I did have a great dictionary and read through that a few times. It sure helped my vocabulary as an eight year old.
  11. I've never listened to Porcupine Tree and I was wondering which album would you suggest for me to start with? I know that's a hard questions since their style has evolved over time, but I'm asking it anyway. lol Thanks!
  12. I really enjoy his Capitol albums too! I have a bunch on lp and was glad that I was able to pick up the Sundazed reissues when they were available cheap. I bought the Antelope Freeway twofer last year and have enjoyed it. It's a lot different than the Capitol albums and feels much like a rock album of its time. I had read about it in the Kahn Impulse book. This and the fact that my grandparents used to live off of the Antelope Valley Freeway convinced me to get it.
  13. When I was a boy, in the 1970's, I really wanted an encyclopedia but my parents didn't want to spend the money. The various grocery stores sold encyclopedias (not Britannica), they were usually on the endcap of an aisle by the checkout lines, and the "A" volume usually had a promotional price of a dollar or so. The other volumes were priced much higher. I ended up with a few "A" volumes since my parents decided to splurge on them for me over the years. I read those "A" volumes through a bunch of times. lol I felt like Charlie Brown, I was a kid whose encyclopedia contained only the same three "A" volumes. I think I would have been a lot smarter if I could have got past "A".
  14. I've been reading an interesting biography of Jack Parsons.
  15. Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a good one.
  16. I really enjoy his early albums and love to play his songs on my guitar (and sing 'em too). The only DualDisc I own is Wither's Just As I Am. I enjoyed the documentary and love watching the performances on it.
  17. I look forward to reading your blog. It's neat finding out the stories behind the names I've seen on albums and it's great that you are honoring Edwards in this manner.
  18. It's funny, although the Wall came out when I was 10, and I heard "Another Brick In the Wall, Pt. 2" on the radio back then, my REAL introduction to Pink Floyd was Animals. I was 16 and I spent the afternoon listening to Animals with my stoner cousin. It was like a whole new world opened up to me.
  19. I went to bed listening to the Gerald Wilson set. I LOVE that box. It's one of my favorite Mosaics. I'm not sure what disc it was, but it was the one with the California Soul album. I really enjoyed it!
  20. I'm with 7/4, Animals is the last interesting Pink Floyd album for me. I liked the Wall when I was a kid, but I haven't had any desire to listen to it in years. Animals is the last album, in my opinion, that is a band album instead of a Roger Waters album with members of Pink Floyd backing him. You guys are so lucky to have seen them on the Animals tour! I saw them in '87 and '94 and enjoyed the '94 tour more than '87.
  21. Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a great one.
