Cliff Englewood
I have quite a few items I am considering selling but the main concern I have is how would I post them so they will actually get there in one piece, without spending a fortune on packaging/insurance??? Is it safe, in general terms to send vinyl/records through the mail, especially internationally??? Any hints, tips or ideas??? Cheers. AllenLowe
best way is to use a record box - check Bags Etc or something like that on line - they are made of cardboard and do the job nicely -one LP can usually be mailed for approx. $6 I think, though I haven't done this in a while and postal rates have gone up -
ASNL77
I have been buying LPs for two years and I must admit than 99.9% of the time my records arrive in the condition they were sent. I like it when the sellers remove the record from the jacket. Bubblewrap is wonderful, even with records. I would also recommend that you secure the corners of the jacket with cardboard or polystyrene as they tend to suffer the most.
mikeweil
A sturdy cardboard box - you can add a second layer for better protection, if the box is large enough. Edge protection is another sensible idea.
sidewinder
Those double-lined folding card sleeves are the best - with internal card inserts to reinforce. Paris Jazz Corner use them - they offer the best protection in my opinion. Make sure that the edges and corners are well protected and mark/tape it 'Fragile'. Tony Pusey
When I used to buy vinyl, I always asked for them to be double boxed, though even that did not always foil the Frisbee throwing teams of the Swedish Post Office or Customs . Once one wag had completed the admonition- Records-do not bend-with the words-Oh yes they do!
clifford_thornton
Sounds about like the Chicago branches of the USPS.
Cliff Englewood
Thanks chaps, so if I bubble wrap it after securing it with card board and then put it in at least two cardboard boxes it might possibly, have a decent chance, of sorta being O.K. brownie
I have never had problems with mailed vinyl, the majority of which were not as thoroughly secured as yours! You should be OK
JohnS
I use a purpose made record mailer but use two corrugated card stiffeners ( I usually cut these from old packaging from white goods, tvs, computers etc). This type of packaging is more or less inflexible and seems to stand up to the rigours of postal handling. Depending on the record these packages usually weigh between 450 and 550 grams). Everything seems to get through okay.
