Sundog
It's a little known fact that George Russell was instrumental in the making of the first couple of Carpenters albums. Heady stuff!
Alexander
If you like "Kind of Blue," I would check out "Somethin' Else" by Cannonball Adderley. Also, any of Coltrane's Atlantic albums would probably suit somebody who is into "KOB."
Matthew
Herbie Hancock's Maidan Voyage has a nice KofB feel to it.

sidewinder
Oliver Nelson -- The Blues and the Abstract Truth. Absolutely - that's the first album that came to my mind as contemporary to KOB.
A Lark Ascending
Eberhard Weber - 'Yellow Fields.' Totally different in instrumentation and completely lacking in 'blues' feel but has that same spacey, taking your time feel as KOB. Perhaps 'In A Silent Way' would be a closer reference point. Sundog
Coltrane's Atlantic albums would probably suit somebody who is into "KOB." Coltrane's album "Ole" comes to mind. A very fine album. Another one that comes to mind is "Jazz Impressions of Japan" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Stylistically, it's different from KOB, however they have an similiar feeling overall. At least to my ear. Two underrated albums in my book.

PFunkJazz
Some of the early Jan Garbarek albums, with or without Keith Jarrett, have a similarly spacey feel - with the blues replaced to a large extent by the Nordic folk music tradition. A Lark Ascending
Gil Evans' 'Out of the Cool.'
Dave James
Tomasz Stanko's "Soul of Things" has a nice, Kind of Bluesy feel to it. Up over and out.
A Lark Ascending
Good point. Makes you wonder how much the sound and space of KOB influended the ECM aesthetic.
Dave James
Bev, As pervasively influential as KOB has become, I would not be surprised if ECM was influenced by Miles' less is more approach. Part of the ECM aesthetic is Manfred Eicher's recording technique. I'm not quite sure how he does it, but it's utterly unique. A signature as recognizable as RVG's. Up over and out.
