what to do with jewel boxes and DVD cases?

I was pondering the same thing but not to such an extreme degree. I just purchased a couple of the Tasman/Pacific Rim 2 and 3-drawer cabinets and I will continue to store all my discs in their cases. What I'm not sure about is what to do with all of my box sets. Prior to getting the cabinets, I found that I rarely went into my box sets to listen to their contents after the initial listen. I was thinking that maybe they would get more listening time if I were to remove the cases from their boxes and file the discs/cases in the drawers. I have about 15 album-sized box sets, 11 of the "tombstone" sized sets and a handful of slightly over-sized sleeve boxes. If I end up putting the contents of the box sets into the drawers I would have to find a method to store the various sized empty boxes because I wouldn't be able to throw them away. I'd want them for their booklets and want to keep the option open of being able to have the complete box set if I ever wanted to sell them.

I have a loft full of the things. For space saving purposes I took all the packaging out out of the jewel cases some years back, dumped the unnecessary bits (those silly cardboard slip cases), and put everything in PVC sleeves.

Stupidly I didn't send the cases directly to recycling but put them in the loft. At some point I'm going to have to get them out of the loft again and to the recycling centre.

I went through a period where when i acquired a second hand CD i'd rip the CD to my computer, throw out the jewel case (but keep the cover insert) and store the CD on spindle. Kind of regret doing this now, especially with some of the rarer stuff. One of these days i'll get round to purchasing something better to store them in... hopefully being stored on the spindles is not doing too much damage in the meantime (they sit there untouched, not too many discs per spindle and have put a few blank discs at the bottom of each spindle). It has saved me heaps of space.

I would think any church or school having a charity rummage sale would be able to dispose of them for you. They could probably find some one who would be willing to buy them for a few cents a piece.

You might eve try posting them on Craigslist and see if some one whill buy the whole lot from you. Probably not for much money, but at least they would then be some one else's worry.

If you'd not might indulging a slightly impish impulse, draw on them with different colored Sharpies, then bury them in a 10 foot deep hole. Go to bed that night and dream of archaeological teams centuries in the future uncovering them with excitements both imagined and not.

You can shape the future long after you've left it!
