A great one from the Steeplechase Classics. Most of the CDs are Dexter Gordon and that´s fine, but it´s wonderful to have this extended live set of Brew Moore. And great tunes here, and a great Danish rhythm section.

As some of us like Brew Moore, how about this one? It´s a Miles Davis Group live from Birdland 1950 with an Allstar personnel : Miles, J.J. Johnson, Brew Moore, Tadd Dameron, Curley Russel and Art Blakey.

Brew holds his own and plays his relaxed Lester Young inspired Tenor. Anyway he once stated the Lester Young is the foundation of bop, and that he (Moore) noticed that he could Play with all the bop stars without changing his style.

And right he was.

Another one is the Spotlite Album "Afro Cubop" that has a lot of Howard McGhee-Brew Moore with the Machito Orchestra.

Again: Brew holds his own and Plays his Thing with the latin Group.

So much teenage energy momentum that they gotta stick in the odd 2/4 bar to hold it all! And even then, it threatens to run over and out all over everything!

Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath (RCA Neon/Fledg'ling)

A bit of a contrast between these two. ;)

Three volumes is about two too many to get a really quality experience. Too much cheap uninspired borderline competent cheap (oh, I already said cheap...well ok, CHEAP) imitations dripping with the slime of greed and insincerity.

But there are gems, and near-gems, things that have lineage (if not necessarily quality) and things that are just out of the blue WTF?!?!?!?!

But those would have fit on one disc quite nicely. Definitely no more than two.
