That's a terrific band.  I'm interested to hear anything with Yamamoto involved

Yes. This is a great disc if you are a Merrill fan.

Alice Coltrane "Kirtan: Kuriya Sings" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD

Alice-Coltrane-Kirtan-Turiya-Sings.jpeg?

A newly configured version (stripped down) of the original (cassette) release from Alice Coltrane. Pretty amazing actually.

I ordered this months ago from Japan and didn't realize there was a US release as well. That one is arriving today. I'll be able to do a comparison.

I really enjoy this album. Salvador isn't ever mentioned in the all time great jazz guitar discussions that I've read, but his tone and playing make for great listening. And the band on this album is top notch.

I do like enjoy his Bee Hive recordings, especially the one with Brignola. I would love to hear the story about how Silvio Smiraglia became Sal Salvador.

Watching a great deal of Farnsworth these days (almost) live from Smalls on YouTube. Fantastic drummer!

I wasn't sure whether to post this Nascimento record on this thread or on the "Not Jazz, Not Classical" thread.

Wayne's on the album, so I'm putting it here.

And of course he had his moment of glory in the film Jazz on a Summer's Day where he was seen playing with Sonny Stitt.

One of the first jazz records I owned, as it was and is a favourite with various influential elders in my musical life.

Currently listening to:

David Sanborn - Voyeur (Warner, 1981)

An odd one to buy early. It took me about ten years to realise how unusual the playing is compared to what was happening all around at the time.

I'm a great evangelist for it, since it seems to have slipped from the public eye recently, and Garner doesn't have much name recognition these days.
