Thanks for putting this all together and starting the thread. Definitely will explore this bc I'm not familiar with much of Stitt's work in collaboration with the organ.

Sklupperbep from Skeeter Shelton & Hamid Drake. The write up about the genesis of this project fascinated me and so dove in. Glad I did. It's excellent. https://skeetersheltonhamiddrake.bandcamp.com/album/sclupperbep

props to anyone who's able to create an original Christmas hit and have it stick like that. -

I'm still not tired of that Mariah Carey record. -
Between this and the Griot Galaxy release it's been a bandcamp bonanza lately.

Well, the AI tools being used to create artists and music whole cloth will be the next thing. There's essentially a radio monopoly with IHeartMusic owning a lot of radio stations. I don't have any doubts they'll start AI'ing their own shit and well you can figure out how much money that will make them. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/meet-the-woman-behind-chart-topping-ai-artist-xania-monet-i-look-at-her-as-a-real-person/?intcid=CNR-01-0623 if you haven't seen the accompanying video to this article, it's embedded on the page and worth the 9 minutes to watch. The word "enshitifcation" is apropos. This is kind of like if I went to a professional kitchen and gave a chef some vague ideas of what I wanted them to cook and how I'd want it presented. Then, instead of giving credit to that chef for the resulting dishes, I'd just take the credit. And I wouldn't have to pay that chef anything. -
I don't really hear chord structures (at least consciously) nor do I think about them when I'm listening to jazz from any era. But I like jazz and it makes up the majority of stuff I listen to. I can't be enough of an outlier on that for Dankworth's opinion to be correct. I have a friend who plays guitar and produces house music. He definitely listens for chords, etc. When he talks to me about most music theory stuff I just kind of glaze over. I get some of it but overall I just don't care about it.

Yeah, and Target is using it for Christmas ads, so it'll only get worse over the next however long -

Representative of popular music on the radio these days. I'm not sure if any instruments are actually being played, but the synths and bass aren't terrible for the genre. The vapid lyrics are just so bad though, and combined with autotuned vocals it's kind of a miserable experience. I'm sure there's fans out there though. -
