Miles Davis Bootleg Series Vol. 6 “The Final Tour” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 edition, disc 1 A Paris 1960 concert. Excellent sound on this set.

My sentiments exactly. Film composers are frequently required to also write (or provide) "source music for exactly a purpose such as this- radio music, phonogrpwh records, jukebox music, etc. Not sure how often a film production company of that time would want to pay to license an existing record for a few seconds of ambient background music when they're already paying a guy who could come up with something as perfect for the function as this.

Joel Ross “The Parable of the Poet” Blue Note cd I find Ross a very intriguing writer, arranger and player. This one has a great ensemble: Ross on vibes with Immanuel Wilkins on alto saxophone, Maria Grand on tenor saxophone, Marquis Hill on trumpet, Kalia Vandever on trombone, Sean Mason on piano, Rick Rosato on bass & Craig Weinrib on drums.

Appreciate everyone's replies and suggestions (please keep them coming!). Since posting this, I feel like the closest I'm getting to THAT sound and style is with music from Lee Konitz, Zoot Sims, and Gerry Mulligan. However, the search continues! Thanks again, everyone.

I really do feel they’ve done a nice job on this. The LP was excellent. Yes, they cost more, but I feel it is justifiable as clearly a lot of care went into them. AND, one of these tracks has been 100% MIA for over 60 years, so that is also some serious sleuthing.

I have read that Kiyoshi's death was sudden and unexpected. Ken Peplowski's cancer was in remission. It has been reported that Ken suffered a heart attack and died in his sleep. Chemo does stress one's heart, so having a heart attack is not really "unexpected". It is a possibility which unfortunately happened to Ken.

When I saw him with Kenny Barron a few months ago, he didn't look 70 nor frail. I wonder if his death was sudden and unexpected or was holding in a fatal illness like Ken Peplowski, this year? RIP so sad for his family and friends.

We went to sleep early and I woke up early, my brain started and wouldn’t stop, so I’m up listening to music. I got this two UHQCD set in from The Lost Recordings in Switzerland yesterday and I’ve long wanted to hear these recordings. With Lou Levy (and the great bassist Max Bennett) these recordings sound very similar to the studio recordings recorded at the time by Stan with Lou at the piano. Great playing, excellent sound (purportedly from the original tapes for the first time) and a great way to start the day. UHQCD 1. “Stan Getz at Zardi’s” 2 UHQCD set
