  1. The ownership of the entire series is divided between (original owners) Danish Debut, Black Lion (Alan Bates), Fontana, Riverside, etc. Much confusion between owners Fontana and Black Lion (Freedom). Bates lost much of his holdings to DA and only Japanese Universal takes a chance. I could type a couple of pages about this.
  2. "Sweet Mama" by the Ellington band, solos by Cootie, Hodges, Nanton and Bigard. Recorded 12/10/29 for Brunswick.
  3. Never had one. Have not visited a barber since high school. My wife has a "hair dresser" license and has cut my hair for about 50 years. Her brother was a barber (now retired) and has never touched my head. Go for the whole deal and send pics. Facebook will follow the procedure if you want.
  4. and I would like a new BMW 3 series in my driveway.
  5. I am curious if this is mono or stereo. I had an original lp (mono only) and it could blow the doors off the house. None of the cd reissues even come close.
  6. Thanks. That is what I was looking for. The first time I met MD he offered to break my arm. :-)
  7. I first encountered Mr Davis in 1968. How about you.
  8. And another , I'll certainly go for the Steig but have a nice LP of the Carter/ Bradford session. There are two Carter/Bradfords.
  9. Me too.
  10. My sentiments too.
  11. Ann and I are seriously considering a road trip to attend the festivities.
  12. NOLA really isn't the best town to look for the musics you mention. I suggest going with an open mind and explore a bunch of clubs - most with no (or low -$5) covers. Just relax, explore and have a good time. To do this I recommend a night exploring Frenchman Street.
  13. When I saw "Alabama Shakes" I instantly thought of Arizona Dranes. Silly me.
  14. While in college (early '60s) I went into a period of listening to current Coltrane records intensely, to find what my friends claimed. After about 2 months (and 3 or 4 records) I got it.
  15. LOL!
  16. Here, I have it for you.
  17. I had given up by then. I an sure I missed something.
  18. It was his problem and he booted it. Means something.
  19. Might be some time for "reflection" Allen.
  20. That's always been my theory. The guy was a notorious workaholic, especially after he moved to L.A. and started getting TV assignments. There's plenty other things he did where it was obvious that he was turning in competent but not really inspiring work in return for a competent but inspiring-enough paycheck. But hey, such is life, no? And when he was inspired, whoa. Sadly (really, really beyond sadly) he took the "whatever" route with the Monk album. I have trouble forgetting that.
  21. From Julian's page on Facebook I am pleased to say that, yes, any rumors you may have heard of my death have been greatly exaggerated! Thank you all for your concern.
