  1. It's almost April 2. Can we stop the childish jokes?! Pain in the ass.
  2. I was "ring bearer" at the ceremony.
  3. Check the Chicago Reader online. More info to come.
  4. Baby Lawrence Baby Jane Leroy Foster
  5. Indeed. We folks be goin' down the tubes.
  6. Dan contacted me a few years ago for an interview and for information about my sessions at Rudy's. Not sure I still have contact info. A piece about RVG by Dan is posted on the Columbia University site George Lewis controls and is buried somewhere in http://www.jazz.columbia.edu/index.html . There may be a way to contact him.
  7. For curious folks, the dismissed bassist was Steve Rodby. On his way to the Vanguard, Pepper played a week in Chicago.I attended each performance at the Jazz Showcase. At the end of the gig Art asked Steve to go along to NY for the recordings. Steve did ok after that experience.
  8. I do remember the broadcasts. Just one (of a few) while searching the dial in the late '50s and early '60s. Late night radio was an adventure in those days.
  9. Shepp in the '60s was about as good as he got technically. The late '70s and beyond be something else. Not that this stuff was without interest.
  10. It's an interesting one. Geez!
  11. I didn't know that.
  12. G'bye Maurice.
  13. I'm old enough to remember three phases of his career. G'bye Mr Mayhew. Thanks for the notice Jack. Memories return.
  14. Not sure if it will help - http://www.harryfox.com/index.jsp
  15. Dreamsville is wonderful.
  16. It was me. A murdered friend was mentioned and I got excited. No excuse, no apology, just the deal.
  17. I'm just trying to boost the value of his collection.
  18. These were recorded at the Sonny Clark My Conception date an are included in Blakey's Drums Around the Corner cd. The Blue Berlin disc preceded the latter issue and had the Berlin tune but not the Porter, IIRC.
  19. The entire 101 Strings series on Somerset and anything on Topps. Don't forget the Ames Brothers and the Chordettes. Original mono pressings of the Baja Marimba Band will be hot too. Did I mention Bobby Vinton? More will come later.
  20. Thanks for the photos. I had a studio booking for Monday and Tuesday so I drove in Sunday afternoon. I passed the 22nd St exit around 5 and had a twinge of regret. I knew it would be a zoo and didn't want to pull strings to get in. I also had to be bright and attentive at 9:30 in the morning for the mixing session. Turns out Steve Wagner, my engineer had been recording and video taping the Sunday night stuff for a new Fred release. We quit early so he could sleep and we started again the next day.
  21. An overlooked gem. Yes, back in the day when everyone was making a bossa nova record, jazzers like me often sneered, but some of them were very good indeed. This one and the Getz/McFarland Big Band Bossa Nova come to mind. Not a single bossa nova on Afro-Bossa. The title track is a bolero. Big Band Bossa Nova is a nice record.
  22. What the fuck was that!!!
