  1. The session take numbers are listed on the back of the tray card. If anyone is interested, I could post a list of all takes from the sessions.
  2. That recording of "Good One" was recorded after a couple of versions of "A Time For Love", as indicated by the take numbers. Lou simply stayed on the Rhodes for take 9.
  3. What time was this on?
  4. I started a similar thread under another topic a few days ago (possiby Artists). I hope to go if I can arrange a few things.
  5. I live in "never never land", but this week I heard Ornette (in AA, 3 hours away) and the Tony Malaby/Angelica Sanchez/Tom Rainey trio (at a radio station recording session courtesy of Lazaro Vega) and hope to attend the Malachi Favors tribute in Chicago on Wednesday. Also within the last month I've heard Organissimo 15 miles south of my home, and will hear them again shortly. We DO live in interesting times.
  6. I'm sure we all hope your new position isn't "out-sourced" to India soon.
  7. Garth my friend - fewer books, more music. B)
  8. I'd seen this thread earlier and ignored it 'cause I thought it was a hunting thread. They want to hunt morning doves in Michigan so why not sopranos?
  9. Uh...yeah; could I put five copies on "hold", Chuck? I'll um...let you know where to ship them in a week or so... My "buy it now" is still $15. Someone recently bought 10 Art Ensemble boxes from me and I'll bet anything they show up on Ebay.
  10. HOLY CRAP!!!! The copy of All Music on Ebay went for $66.
  11. It might be next.
  12. Have not read it but it would have to go some to beat the competition. My current favorite is Alyn Shipton's "A New History of Jazz".
  13. You only have too many cds when your wife and/or kids have to dispose of them after your death.
  14. I don't have the Prestige, Impulse Quartet or Pablo boxes. I do have the rest.
  15. Judging from the mics last night, I'm sure the concert was recorded. OC probably has all of his concerts taped.
  16. A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  17. So, how much you willing to pay to take this puppy off your hands. B)
  18. I sell crack to middle school students and give them copies of the Koran. I've outgrown the local school system and am thinking of moving on. Does John Asscroft read this board?
  19. Ghost started an ALL MUSIC thread on All About Jazz and I got pissed on. He offered to delete the thread and I said I'd deal with it. Hans sent a notice about the message too. Thanks to both. Damn. I hate this shit. Edited to mention I sent a message to Mike Ricci about it. I will be interested in the response.
  20. I hope all goes smoothly for you. Good luck.
  21. The first two phrases of the last song did sound like a cross between "Saints" and "Turnaround", but I think was neither.
  22. I received the following email from the AEC: Subject: favors release Date: Fri, 19 Mar 2004 16:10:32 -0600 Memorial Celebration for Malachi Favors Moghostu at Hot House March 24 2004, 7 p.m. 31 East Balbo, Chicago This event will serve as a going home celebration in loving memory of Malachi Favors Moghostut sponsored by the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), and the Art Ensemble of Chicago Educational Foundation. Featured at this event will be performances by: Famoudou Don Moye Tatsu Aoki Joseph Jarman Ari Brown Roscoe Mitchell AACM Big Band There will be a $15 donation at the door with proceeds going to the family of Malachi Favors. In 1965 “Favors” as he was affectionately known to many joined AACM. Shortly after, Jazz great Roscoe Mitchell recruited Favors to become a member of The Art Ensemble of Chicago. The original group featured Favors on the bass, Mitchell on the Sax, Joseph Jarman playing the reed, Lester Bowie as the trumpeter and Don Moye as drummer. Favors would transcend into his music by painting his face African-style to blend in with the spirits in the music. The face painting was partly inspired by a picture of Charlie Parker adorned in full African tribal garb. All this compliments Favors guru aura and strong identification with the black avant-garde. He often used a stage name, Maghostut (An African word meaning “ I am your host”) and has been known to claim he lived 43,000 years. Malachi (Maghostut) departed this life on Friday, January 30, 2004 at 9:45pm His favorite praise was “Hallelujah to God!” Please come join us in celebration of his life and music.
