  1. The Brecker Brothers Band from the Blue Note's Patreon page. The only album I have with the Breckers together is Horace Silver's In Pursuit of the 27th Man.
  2. After revisiting this and listening to the archival performance on the Blue Note's Patreon page, I may have to track down the box and the other Origin albums. I'm on a Chick kick now.
  3. Chick Corea and Origin at the Blue Note, from the Patreon page. It is the same band as the Blue Note box and single disc (Steve Wilson, Bob Sheppard, Steve Davis and bassist Avishai Cohen), but with Jeff Ballard in place of Adam Cruz.
  4. It'd been a while since I'd last listened to this one. I was reminded to pull it out after the Blue Note posted a live video on their Patreon page. The live video dates from about a year after this disc and the six-disc Origin box were recorded.
  5. Wow. Happy Birthday, Candido!
  6. Great cover! I didn't know that Bell had led any dates. What are your thoughts?
  7. Happy Birthday, Mr. Hampton!
  8. Bobby Timmons -Quartets and Orchestra: I was curious about this one and found it for $10.
  9. I took a page out of Dan's GHF and messaged them to request some Roy Haynes. They said they'd find some.
  10. Lafayette Harris, Jr. - Happy Together: Having ripped this and albums by Betty Carter and Jimmy Rushing, this seemed like a good album to follow Carter. So far, it is a strong trio album with a few vocal features for Moore. The title track is a cover of 'Happy Together' by The Turtles! Harris receives excellent support from Dwayne Dolphin and Cecil Brooks III. EDIT: I see that Harris has a new album out with Peter Washington and Lewis Nash.
  11. Me, too. The arranger, Daniel Schnyder, also arranged for Abdullah Ibrahim. I've heard and recommend African Suite. Now playing: Ben Allison - Quiet Revolution: The first album by Allison's Giuffre-inspired group, The Easy Way.
  12. I think that this was my first Konitz-led session and is still one of my favorites. Because of this album, I once called out for 'Skylark' at a Konitz concert when he asked for requests. It didn't work, but I tried.
  13. It's a shame that they haven't released more recordings on their (defunct or dormant) Half Note imprint or elsewhere. Maybe Zev Feldman could make it happen.
  14. Like many here, I followed his return to the scene, which was an unexpected development. I have one of his ESP albums that I need to revisit (that band!) and his return album, having preordered a signed copy. I remember enjoying it. I'm glad that he was able to make a brief return and reconnect with his son. Thank you for the music, Mr. Logan, and rest in peace.
  15. I saw Henry Grimes perform only once, in Cleveland with Spiritual Unity. Albert Ayler's father was in the audience, too. I talked to Grimes and his wife after the show and they were both friendly people. I bought a copy of his solo album on Ilk, which he signed, and a disc benefiting Detroit poet/artist/activist Aaron 'Ibn Pori' Pitts (with Andrew Lamb and Avreeayl Ra also on board). I later regretfully missed Grimes in Pittsburgh a few years ago and unsuccessfully lobbied a local promoter to bring him to town. I'm grateful that I got to see and meet him and that he had such a productive return to music. Thank you for the music, Mr. Grimes, and rest in peace.
  16. Dan beat me to posting about this. I've seen Roy Haynes several times at the Blue Note and had plans to see him last month. I hope that the club survives and that Roy plays there again. Man, that Ray Brown show is smokin'. Geoff Keezer, Karriem Riggins and Stanley Turrentine?!?! That was worth my $10 right there. This is a pretty exciting project. I'll be listening to Elvin next.
  17. I listened to all of the Konitz-led (and co-led) material from the Mosaic yesterday and today. Maybe the news is just starting to sink in or it is because this intimate recording captures what Lee sounded like live, but it is a punch to the gut.
  18. Between 2012 and 2017 (when I saw him the day after he turned 90), I managed to catch Lee Konitz in 5 states and DC. Whatever the setting, I was always spellbound by the melodic beauty of his improvisations. I'm grateful to have experienced his playing live and to have overcome my nerves to briefly chat with him once and shake his hand. Thank you for the music, Mr. Konitz, and rest in peace.
  19. I just listened to most of this set a week or two ago while hoping Lee was doing okay during this. Billy Bauer sounds lightyears ahead of his time on Session E.
  20. Thanks for the recommendations so far. I like Trio Sketches.
  21. There is a new trio album out by Kenny Barron, Dave Holland and Johnathan Blake, Without Deception. On Dave Holland's Bandcamp page, you can download two unreleased tracks for free. One tune is by Kenny Wheeler, the other by John Taylor. I've seen Barron and Holland together as a duo and Barron and Blake together in a quintet and trio, but not all three together. Before the pandemic threw a monkey wrench in my concert plans, the trio with Barron, Blake and Kyoshi Kitagawa was one of the few concerts I've attended this year. I'll be picking the new one up at some point, hopefully at a Barron concert.
  22. After listening to the audio from the Jazz Icons DVD of a 1958 Blakey concert, this was a logical next stop.
  23. Although I wish that he had recorded much more, his huge, dark sound, rock-solid time and unfussy, propulsive lines are iconic. Thank you for the music, Mr. Merritt, and rest in peace.
