  1. Richie Hart - Greasy Street: I was unfamiliar with Hart, Petrone and Corsello, but $2.50 for an album with Dr. Lonnie Smith and the word 'greasy' in the title seemed like a good bet.
  2. It's important to note that some of these, including Blue Train, are another chance to grab some albums with bonus tracks that are otherwise unavailable. I missed out on Free for All and Moanin' a few years ago and they became OOP and expensive, so I grabbed them this time around. Other ones in this 80 Works series with domestically unavailable bonus tracks are Out to Lunch and Somethin' Else. I need to get Blue Train and Somethin' Else this time around. I am hoping that the 4th batch brings back Mode for Joe, which I also missed. Two other ones with bonus tracks from the earlier SHMs that could reappear would be Unity and Speak No Evil, which I already have (along with Out to Lunch). Considering how important these albums are, it is frustrating that only those who keep up with the Japanese reissues (and re-reissues) will know that the US reissues are missing tracks. The complete versions of these albums deserve to be available everywhere.
  3. You heard it, people. Treat yourself to some reasonably priced Bill Barron. I've found things on Discogs that were crazy expensive elsewhere.
  4. Jim Cutler - For Real
  5. Someone is selling Bill Barron's wonderful The Next Plateau for $7.98 on Amazon. Others are going for $28 and up. I'd pre-order a Bill Barron Mosaic in a heartbeat.
  6. Gwilym Simcock - Blues Vignette, Disc 1: I bought this after a Simcock solo gig last night.
  7. Denis Gonzalez Band of Sorcerers Featuring Frank Lowe - Live in Washington, DC 10/07/89
  8. Tad Weed - Soloing: Released on Vinny Golia's label, with Ken Filiano and Joe LaBarbera.
  9. I have three of his albums, with Mundell Lowe joining him on all three. While I got to see Lowe perform on three occasions, I never got to see Previn perform. I need to pick up the album he did with Russ Freeman. Thank you for the music, Mr. Previn, and rest in peace.

    Ed Bickert, RIP

It's remarkable that he had been retired since before I started getting into jazz in 2002 or 2003. While the jazz nerd in me wishes that he had stayed active and that I could've somehow seen him perform, the other part of me is glad that he was able to retire on his own terms and enjoy such a long retirement. Thank you for the music, Mr. Bickert, and rest in peace.
  11. R. Kelly was temporarily banned from Spotify, I believe.
  12. Michael Bisio - Accortet: An album, like too many ones I purchase at gigs, that ended up in a pile and went unheard. I am enjoying the sound of cornet, accordion, bass and drums.
  13. Peter, have you ever heard Canadian pianist Min Rager's First Steps? I remember enjoying that album and Dean's playing on it.
  14. Rex, Wrecks and XXX, Disc 1: I bought this after a Shipp/Bisio duo gig a few years ago. I finally have it on my Google Play library to explore more. I don't usually listen to free jazz close before bedtime, but this is ending the night well.
  15. Roy Haynes - Cracklin': This album burns.
  16. I am losing it. As it turns out, Google Play was showing Lullabluebye as the artist image but I was playing Lonely Woman. Here I thought that it'd been so long since I'd listened to Lullabluebye that it sounded totally different and somewhat unfamiliar; Lonely Woman joined my collection only a year or two ago, while I've had Lullabluebye since maybe 2005 or 2006. Now I am listening to Lullabluebye.
  17. Frank Kimbrough - Lullabluebye: I searched my Google Play library for trio albums and this one caught my eye. It'd been a couple years since I played it. I may have to spin Kimbrough's first album, Lonely Woman, soon.
  18. Vijay Iyer - Break Stuff: Another $1 library find. I need to listen to Mutations, which I bought at the library a few months ago and only ripped.
