way too much reverb - and listen to Cass solo on Dream A Little Dream of Me. She had a prom-band voice, in my opinion. Ok in harmony, mediocre as feature.

I did some work for Rhino a while back - then the original guys sold it and started Shout - than I did some work for Shout, until they got annoyed at me for putting the kibosh on a Scott Joplin piano roll reissue - I informed them that these rolls, which for years were alleged to have been done by Joplin himself, were actually not (I think it was Mike Montgomery who found this out) - so they were a bit pissed off, as I think they would rather not have known this and just issued it, but now that they knew it they couldn't do it anymore, so I guess I lost them some money. oh well....

actually, wasn't Paul Mauriat the original Love is Blue guy? It doesn't get any hipper than him -

well, McCartney always had that lighter side to him, I think, even singing things like Red Sails in the Sunset and Til There was You, so I'm not sure he needed an external influence. Problem was that once the Beatles broke up he didn't have Lennon anymore to wring the sentimentality out of him - and Lennon didn't have McCartney anymore to wring the Yoko out of him -

I've always been bugged by John Lewis; though he was one of the first to praise Ornette, near the end of his life he made very disparaging remarks about Coleman, to the effect that Ornette had become just another musical nut - I think Lewis was an interesting composer but I weary of his pronouncements about the blues - what I get from his own blues playing is "hey, though I am sophisticated and erudite I have not forgotten my roots." Well, I feel the same way about myself - except I would add "handsome." the rest of the band is fine, however (the MJT?) -
