  1. I'm also hung like King Kong -
  2. are you sure it's not: one three two two seven or one one one one one five two one or eight eight half eighth eighth eighth eighth
  3. I've actually liked the little Winehouse that I've heard - anybody who smokes crack can't be all bad -
  4. to get to the other side -
  5. just want to mention that this thread has taught me something - in the past I have posted new threads on Organissimo with what I consider to be great pearls of wisdom, about subjects of vital historical and intellectual importance. Usually they fizzle out after two posts (both mine) - from this, and from this new and very popular thread, I have learned several important lessons: 1) I'm not paid to think 2) King Kong was well hung 3) the hoky poky is an important new dance 4) Enja Records still owes me about $2500 for the European publishing for a CD I did with them about 15 years ago 5) my elbow hurts 6) I am a prisoner in Maine
  6. yeah, but the way it's set up it's all relative - after you find the scale or key tone, everything else is the same as everywhere else on the fretboard -
  7. Jim, you need to get an endorsement deal from these guys - something like - "when I pull out my organ, it's always for Leslie" -
  8. sorry - clarinet is too damned hard to play - where I come from, an F should remain an F in all registers -
  9. no one expects the Spanish Inquisition -
  10. I love Ellis - and will add - 1) one can't just say "I don't like kenton" - because Kenton is about 18 different things - Holman, Russo, Graettinger (a genius IMHO), Gene Roland, Johnny Richards, June Christie, Ruoglo. and more more more - there is some amazing stuff there, I think - 2) I've repeated this a million times, but it's worth noting here, again; I was talking to Jaki Byard about Don Ellis, whom Jaki thought was a major figure - I said, "than why don't you think he gets more recognition?" Jaki looked at me and said "Because he was white." very honest guy, Jaki was -
  11. Tammy Grimes Earl Hines Hines Hines and Dad sorry, wrong thread -
  12. I got blisters on my fingers -
  13. I heard Chris Anderson at one of Barry Harris's NYC concerts, maybe 25 years ago, at least - he did not play that well, seemed frail and uncertain - are there any good and representative recordings?
  14. hey - his name is my name too - as soon as I can find somebody else's social security number -
  15. don't know about the drums, but the strangest encounter I ever had with a jazz musician was with DeJohnette, in NYC's downtown Tower Records, crica 1990 -
  16. smart guy - I remember an appearance on, of all places, the Mike Douglas show, probably late 1960s; funny guy, clever and self-aware; hope he wasn't a crook - don't know if anybody remembers the Robert Klein routine about seeing him at Madison Sqaure Garden; jokes about the "intimacy" of the venue and the great echoes in the hall: "transcendental-dental-dentaldentaldental...."
  17. never have sex with a wax cylinder during a heat wave -
  18. depends what you put them on -
  19. problem is, even giving away material copywritten by others is illegal - so trading likely falls under the same restriction -
  20. "I've never had any luck getting sexy with a record" try a 45 - larger hole in the center -
  21. well look, sometimes you gotta sleep with someone before they'll give you a review copy -
  22. not a Cosby fan either - his blanket put-down of current-day black parenting, his blanket assault on hip hop, and not to mention his pattern of allegedly drugging women and than raping them - a few law suits point this out, as well as a detailed magazine story a few years back in which more thna a few women came forward to testify as to his actions - finding wannabe actresses and than taking advantage of them - and his courtroom appearances of support for his good friend Martha Stewart -
  23. I have Alcina on an original LP - I'll sell it if somebody offers me more than it's worth (gotta buy shoes for the dog) -
  24. yeah, my mind goes toward space but not quite to the land of Ra - Ronnie Boykins is/was one of my favorite bass players - I heard him in person only once (in a small group with Bob Neloms, at the Tin Palace - amazing sound -) I usually find the first 3-5 minutes edifying, and than... love Marshall Allen, Gilmore, too, Pat Patrick scared me once (but I was only 16 or so) - love the sound of Ra in small doses - and than it's like listening to my old Buddhist friends chant, back in, say 1973 or so - I appreciate their sincerity but I don't find it compelling -
