  1. I don't want to start any arguments; I only want to point out that Garner at his best shows that you can be funky, slick and very on top of the beat and still sound fresh and non-cliched, unlike a certain other pianist. That's all I will say. For now, anyway.....
  2. i gotta say I neglected Perkins (probably heard some of the later less comfortable things) until Larry straightened me out and then I went back and now think he just had the most wonderful soul. Floated right by me (or over me) at first, however.
  3. so sorry; my guy left us a year ago (he's the one in my picture). This is the hardest thing in the world; but you just have to remember, as I am sure you do, what a nice life they had with you.
  4. I bet there were some old reels lying around that somebody just surreptitiously transferred to digital and carted away.
  5. sorry I will miss this one, but let me send out a major recommendation to anyone close enough; this is a real band.
  6. no, I just really loved that LP when I first heard it back when it came out, or probably a few years later; I used to go see Konitz all the time at Gregory's with Dick Katz and Wilbur little and his playing, on the right nights, was just a revelation. It was very close to what he did on Spirits.
  7. what I was saying was that Spirits was with Mosca. Which it was, and he was the subject of this thread. Hence my mention of the cd.
  8. just listening - was it Spirits? with Konitz.
  9. sound is rough but this music makes me ecstatic; especially McPherson, who is so much more alive on these air shots.
  10. funny because I saw Brubeck at Newport - late 90s, maybe - with Militello, and Brubeck just did his regular thing. As with OP, it drove me nuts.
  11. aurelio, that's fine, thanks everyone.
  12. I never did get a reply, but I did annoy some people. Mike Fitzgerald went bezerk because I posted the same thing on his group (which he later kicked me off).
  13. yes, absolutely. Reduced down it sounds better; which is basically why our commercial CDs - at 16/44 - sound better when originally recorded at 24/96. I say this from multi-recording experience.
  14. just a note, have been recording in 24/88 and 24/96, and even with my aging ears and some hearing loss, the difference is significant. Even on my little Tascam DA 40.
  15. well, pretty much as soon as I get 'em and can assemble the digi-paks; they will probably all be ready at about the same time -
  16. now that is a beautiful piece. Shows what can happen when he just.....plays.

  18. thanks Larry; wish I could read your reviews on a more regular basis.
  19. that's Manny Albam? that's a beauty; usually he sounds sorta generic to me.
  20. well, I didn't want to say anything, but many years ago I was kidnapped, tied to a chair, and forced to listen to West Side Story as played by O.P.
  21. we should mention, in the interest of full disclosure, that Bill Evans loved OP's playing.
  22. ok; I can live with that; I was just trying to explain why I, personally, do have trouble remaining silent when his name comes up.
  23. 1) you did cause me to have a bad dream, Larry, but I have forgiven you 2) geez, I said worse things about OP than Jsngry did; so I guess I am guilty as well - but you people have to know that a) yes, we ARE forced to listen to OP because he is so damned popular; and b) I personally am deeply offended by his playing; seriously, it is the jazz equivalent, to my ears, of Donald Trump. So these reactions are understandable.
