  1. the most recent copy on ebay went for $2,200, head man. you do the conversion to sterling. it's a highly sought after record.
  2. after sampling 'in action', it's so langud and beautiful i don't see how i can live without it now that i know it exists. in a way, i find the title a little misleading. i mean, there's action to be sure, but it's a disciplined beauty. i don't think a download will do. i previously assumed from its title that it was live, but it sounds like a studio date. how long did this quartet play together, chuck? any stories to flesh out this period of jr's playing is appreciated. as a footnote, i'm not new to jr by any means, having had his blue note debut and 'the message' for many years.
  3. i'm not familiar with 'in action', but from what i gather, recommended?
  4. harrison, arkansas harrison ford harrison bay
  5. just out of curiosity, is the vsop + concord packaging that contain the cdr's standard jewelcases with booklet and inlay?
  6. it's kind of odd, but some when you click on most of the covers they then open as the master boxes... btw, did you notice that alfred lion signed his last name beneath the "6 m's" statement? noj - was the warehouse that held the hendrix material climate controlled?
  7. well, here's the box for sonny clark's "dial s for sonny"... several others can be found @ music matters. one more i couldn't resist, for those who may never have seen; donald byrd's "royal flush". i always wondered what "6 m's" was an abbreviation for...
  8. i've ordered from jazzhus twice and great experiences both times. contact chie at zoarbook@hotmail.com . jazzhus is owned and operated by a publishing house based in taipei (and that's where each of my shipments came from).
  9. In the event you wondered what Sonny Rollins in Springfield looked like...
  10. ah - okay. processing it that way makes more sense. i'm adding it and the ross/ganley to The List [tm]...
  11. what is it you two like about the joe castro date? the samples i heard sounded pretty straight which i thoght belived the title 'groove funk soul' but maybe each piece develops into something i didn't hear. btw, i hope you're onto the young-holt title, MG...
  12. actually, all three of his atlantic titles are in the series ('suddenly the blues', 'blues shout', and, in 'soul talk')...
  13. follow up and let us know what you think. i was just listening to leo wright's "suddenly the blues" from this series just this morning. i think you're going to be pretty happy...
  14. seeing as it was recorded at plaza sound, i'm going to guess not...
  15. i'll take a swpie and say that i've found flac files to be the most durable in terms of useage and converting. however, that's just my experience. i'm sure others could probably say the same thing about the other file types.
  16. out of curiosity, naturally. wasn't sure if you could comment any any la/lt series vinyl. i was pretty sure you were all digital (like me) but i couldn't remember.
  17. hans - your collection is primarily digital, isn't it?
  18. no doubt the deal hd struck with the devil to obtain the rights.

  20. i'm referring to the copy that head man says that he doesn't listen to very much...
  21. its initial issue on disc was several years before the collector's choice series. at the time, the booklets came with a thin lamination and have held up well. i think because it's such a great session and represents the best of the 4200 series is the reason we all want to hear the best possible version of it that we can, in an obsession-free way of course. there's a lot of color and texture to the date. on the other hand, for some reason it strikes me as odd that every issue of 'san francisco' i've heard is pretty nice. oh, and hopefully head man and erwbol can work out something on that tocj issue...
  22. what's it going for from amazon.jp resellers?
  23. TOCJ 8676 may be a better solution for you... by the way, does the hd tracks issue also bring attendant clarity and texture to the instrumentation on the date?
  24. i don't have, nor have i heard, that particular catalog number, but i do own two issues of 'total eclipse' (one american and one japanese) and they're quite different from a clarity perspective. again, however, we're deep into the 4200 series and something about some titles of this era of masters just isn't up to scratch. i know i can't be alone in what i hear... nonetheless, i'd wager that the issue of 4291 you're asking about may be as good as it gets. i just remember this date as not being as clear or sharp as others. insanely perfect material, of course. and finally, yes, that is a completely different series from a few years back. the 1100 yen price reflects the beginning of the global market softening.
