  1. in other news, this has to be one of the most offbeat covers ever....
  2. i think this series, like many, runs hot and cold based on the source master. i now have about 20-30 titles from the series. the lloyd titles, which i do not own, have never sounded so great to me (nor does that period lloyd really appeal to me), so i passed on them. however, the joe castro and ronnie ross titles....
  3. i've heard it several times - i'm just not impressed. the free playing did zero point zero for me. however, i'll give it another listen...
  4. i *knew* you'd like that date. 'always let me go' is the sole keith jarrett record i don't own...
  5. this thread has become insanely long and encompassing of everything but 'somewhere'. well, i, for one, second your motion. keith? get on that for us...
  6. no 'standards live' or 'the cure'? my two favorite! for non-standards material, i really like 'changeless'. does everyone know that record? it's a full length recording of the extended vamps or interludes and stands up very well, imo...
  7. well, i think there's more than a passing similarity, musically, or maybe in spirit, between the two, so i'm positive you'll be happy with it.
  8. i'm a *H U G E * 'up for it' fan! it's the little album that could. it's not sparkling. it's not flashy by any means. obviiously, it's no 'standards live' or 'still live', but it has a spirit that resonantes with me.
  9. HIGHLY recommended!
  10. in fact. maybe keith is so inspired by the atmosphere the japanese audiences participate in evoking that he uses them as the standard...
  11. btw, "live at the open theater east" is, as i'm sure you know, from a japanese gig. not only would the trio be delirious from the very large check, keith would *never* try reproaching a japanese audience. then again, they'd never need reproaching, so...
  12. that's an understatement - and yes it is a great book.
  13. that's funny - i'm halfway though that book right now...
  14. it may be along the lines of a nervous laugh. some people have an innate discomfort with slience or stillness. much of it subconscious, no doubt. in any event, i think keith has been mellowing out in recent years, if i'm not mistaken. probably due in no small part to his new relationship.
  15. speaking of sanborn, anyone here know about his diet....?
  16. again - very grateful for all the links, for sure. everyone recognizes it as a good session and wants me to have it. i do have sources for the title, and even have a hi-res (get the bad pun?) digital copy alredy. i just thought that if a board member a la stefan, et al happened to have it in a 'to sell' stack then i'd take it off their hands. i'm going for the february 2013 reissue.
  17. cameras... when i saw the trio for the fourth time (!) last fall, two interesting non-musical moments ocurred before they began; the first was after a very long and warm applause (and maybe even a standing ovation, if i recall) from the audience, keith said in a tone that was razor sharp with what could only be dripping sarcasm, "is it okay if we begin now...?". i'm sure in his mind it was intended to be playful. the second was just as he was centering himself at the piano and the hushed slience that descends a hall with excellent acoustics just before a piece begins, a cell phone began to ring. i could feel the entire hall cringe. keith turns to the general direction of the phone with a quizzical expression on his face. i braced for what i knew was going to be the mother of all call outs (as we've all heard about them for years), and keith begins to laugh hysterically. after the crowd exhales and does the same, surely out of sheer relief, he says just before beginning again in earnest, "who says i don't have a sense of humor".
  18. does everyone remember the freak out keith had in umbria a few years ago that caused the fesitval to "ban" him? the trio will be performing there at arena santa giulianaon on july 7. that should be interesting...
  19. no it's not - you want to sell it...
  20. two days after my own.... (happy belated birthday)
  21. i really think 'up for it' is underrated. sonically, it's recorded outdoors, is it not? i think 'my foolish heart' sparkles, sonically speaking. maybe some listeners would think it's too bright. 'still live' and 'standards live' are both really nice. however, if you're looking for what could be an acoutsically flat base line for jarrett trio records, i'd think the relatively dry acoustics of the blue note set are just that. next to those, the rest of the catalog sounds eq'd to one degree or another.
  22. yeah - let me know your mileage and i may give it another go.
  23. a vague flatness - a lack of depth, especially in the lower end, that i hear immediately in other recordings. play 'my foolish heart' and it sounds almost bright by comparison. in any case, this was just my impression from a recent sunday morning listen after having not heard it in some time. the performaces, especially on the title track, are excellent.
