  1. when players start skipping it's time to start considering replacements. if at all possible, i'd encourage you not to replace it with another multidisc player. multidisc technology and good quality audio, imho, don't go together. i've never heard a decent sounding multidisc player. i'm positive you'll get more mileage out of a decent single drawer unit. the mechanics of the platter transport cause problems because they're usually plastic with little resilience don't hold up. i went through three of them, my last being an nad, before following this advice and abandoning them for a good single drawer. i think you'll be happier and your unit will perform better in the long run. anyhow, i'm not bashing on your current unit, i just think with as good a collection as you have that it deserves some nice hardware.
  2. you're not too late at all. i'll be in town the last week of the month. thanks very much for the link.
  3. the parlan set is on sale @ mosaic for $69.00....

  7. i'll be in paris shortly and have only been to the new morning. can anyone recommend a few? thanks in advance.
  8. i'm afraid not. however, if bill falls through i'd be more than happy to burn disc 2 for you, drew. seeing as you were so kind with that soundtrack some time ago.
  9. Don't get too excited. The Japanese version is a condensed 15 track one disc amalgam of the two disc set with one or two track variations and an obi-strip proclaiming it "Snowflakes - Japanese Editon". Identical exterior artwork with minor changes to the booklet. Catalog POCJ-1466, by the way.
  10. Best. Compilation. Ever. So good I bought 2 and a 1-disc Japanese version.
  11. note: the set is going to ebay on saturday 1/1.
  12. pm sent on 'a jazz portrait of charlie mariano'...
  13. i'm with you. however, this is highly subjective territory, no? on one hand, i do see hans' point of view in that the older works series pressings are pretty faithful to the analogue vinyl sound (well, as faithful as a digital format can be, anyway). btw. here's that link to the history of japanese blue note cd pressing series in japan; http://wiki.livedoor.jp/recordame/d/bluenote#jprelease ....
  14. p.s. no PM yet. set still available.
  15. i should have known better and removed it.
  16. remove the period (".") from the end... http://jazzlabels.klacto.net/pacific.html
  17. deep discography information is available at http://jazzlabels.klacto.net/pacific.html. tocj 5611-5615. artists include chet baker, gerry mulligan, clifford brown, zoot sims, bud shank, bill perkins, laurindo almeida, bob gordon, jack montrose, lee konitz, chico hamilton, hampton hawes, russ freeman, jack sheldon, cy touff, art pepper, jim hall, phil rso, bob burgess, mariano-dodgion sextet, the mastersounds, freddy gambrell, and lambert, hendricks, and ross in both rare non-album tracks. additional information on the material is at http://jazzprofiles.blogspot.com/2010/07/pacific-jazz-samplers.html
  18. i have the highly sought after jazz west coast series on japanese toshiba discs that virtually never come to market. in my years of crate digging and e-baying, i've not seen them once. they were pressed one time, in 1991, and quickly went out of print. each disc and jewelcase is flawless. if you're interested in this set, i'm asking $300.00, which given its rarity, is not out of line. payment must be made by cashiers check and will include insured shipping within the united states. if you live outside north america and are interested, IM me and we'll discuss a solution.
  19. rolf - amazing. much respect, care, and condolences. if she was anything like you, and more likely it's you who are like her, hers is an irreplaceable loss. we're with you...
  20. my set was waiting @ home for me yesterday and was in mint/sealed condition (with slight box warpage due to heat, no doubt). thanks again!
  21. just out of curiosity, has any other buyer here received their set yet....?
  22. PM sent on the Hodges....
  23. wrong. according to the cd universe link the label is "phantom".
  24. postscript: it has gone. i pm'd connoisseur who mentioned it was snagged some time ago but he hadn't noted so here...
  25. no disrespect to mose' blue note sides at all. frankly, i find mose catalog to be one of the most consistent. the differences in his records are actually rather subtle when compared with many others. if you're interested at all, here's a link to a short piece that aired on yesterdays fresh air on npr in which mose and producer joe henry are interviewed. the gem of the piece is the part where mose discusses the first song he ever wrote as a 14 year old; "the 14 part palmolive plan". it's here; My link
