i'm a bit of a conisseur of keith's and the trio. my all time #1, indeed one of my favorite trio records of all-time, is the soaring "standards live', recorded early in the life of the group. i think it's perfectly imperfect - and very well recorded. anyway, i've listened to 'somewhere' about six or seven times now. it's a deceptively, or maybe not so deceptively, deep record. ranking is really pointless, isn't it? however, for me, it comes in way ahead of 'the out of towners' and 'my foolish heart', although each of the trio's records have their own unique qualities, on a recent listening i was struck by what i thought was a rather off quality of recording on 'the out of towners'. in any event, i long ago found it more rewarding to process the trio's output in gradation of values reflected for each performance rather than think 'this one is better than that one' (although none will ever equal 'still live'... ). despite how one feels on the apparently polarizing subject of keith himself, the likes of the recorded work of this trio will probably never be equaled. have you gotten it yet, cj?

i think it stands up to reappraisal...

how timely. i've been on a red kick lately and am looking to acquire some lesser-known sessions. especially curious about the 'in sweden' sides.

'silence' and 'first song' are masterpieces, imho...

i got my hands on a bainbridge copy of 'in action' (as ineligant as the coverart is as compared with the original issue...) and am thrilled. can anyone contrast it with the new reissue?

one of the select few hargrove dates in my collection. a stellar project of which there's two or three in his catalog.

that's funny. a couple years ago i was in midtown walking right down broadway and who should i run into but gil goldstein walking the opposite direction. i leaned over and said "are you, by chance, gil goldstein?" and he said he didn't remember ever being recognized in public and asked me to join him for a film (oddly enough) which i didn't have tme for, so we sat and had a beer. he was a supreme gentleman and we keep in touch to this day.

btw, did you get a burrito in this year....?

while we all may not be as clueless as that, i'm positive we could do with a primer on sorting out the general regionalization of accents of england proper. you know, just to set us straight.after all, do you understand the distinction between the accent of one from maryland and pennnsylvaina or michigan and illinois? subtle to the ear, but easily as distinct.

when is a 'deep scratch' not audible...? but i'm will cliff - this record would sell for over a grand easily if the scratch isn't visually hideous and the setup is otherwise a VG. jacket condition would therefore become an imporant factor.

i think david might be looking for an impression of the accents and what non-brits may think of it vs whether it's understod or not. ?

i'd wager even with said scratch you'd still land a handsome sum.
