  1. My order was classical issues from "legit" labels (Hyperion/Helios, Harmonia Mundi, Music & Arts, etc.). Plenty of those left--at least I hope there are by the time they get around to filling my order. Reminds me of the Concord Summer Blowout a few years ago--orders took forever to ship, but the prices made it well worth the wait.
  2. Sometimes. Given the prices, I guess it's worth the wait. Do they send shipping notices?
  3. I placed my first order with Berkshire on 12/31/08, and haven't heard squat since (and my credit card hasn't been charged). The web site states that a full four weeks should be waited before contacted them about an order, but is this par for the course--i.e., do orders usually take this long to ship?
  4. Let me know when they offer a Mosaic Select.
  5. I bet the reason the cover is larger is because you sent Downbeat a little payola after successfully lobbying the band for the album name. Excuse me--it's called a promotional expense.
  6. I think you're right, and I also think that Greg's right that it was probably crappy editing for space.
  7. I have to imagine that sometimes reviews get edited for space. I don't have the magazine handy, but imagine there are a lot of reviews about that length. Could be standard for many releases? Anyhow, any press is good press eh? g I DO have it handy, and Greg is correct. In fact, the review of Michael Feinstein's "The Sinatra Project" (from Concord, incidentally, so label size isn't determinant) right next to the "Groovadelphia" review is actually one line shorter than our boys' review (although, the "Groovadelphia" cover depiction is a bit larger and takes up more space ).
  8. I haven't heard it, but here's one review, for what it's worth: http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=9420

    That was my reaction.
  10. Same here! I just got a great bargain on this set a few weeks ago from the former US distributor of Oehms (Naxos of America has now taken on that role ), which was blowing out its entire Oehms stock at deep discounts. Great! I'm really looking forward to getting it. The email came this morning to say it had been dispatched. You may have already seen this, but here is one of the glowing reviews of the set (when it was issued on Arte Nova, prior to Oehms reissuing it): http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=3448 and a follow-up on the Oehms reissue: http://www.classicstoday.com/review.asp?ReviewNum=7457 By the way, as the second review mentions, there is no listing of individual tracks and timings in the booklet that comes with the box, so I just printed it off of this page and stuck it in the box!
  11. Plus, Tower (AKA Caiman in Amazon Marketplace Land) provides free shipping on orders of $25 or more, and also has a phone number with real people on the other end with whom you can discuss the status of your order (albeit after a long time on hold ).

  13. Groovadelphia.
  14. At least the CDs in the Evans Verve box were playable right out of the box. For many people (including me ) some or all of the Charlie Christian CDs were completely unplayable fresh out of the box because of the way Sony had packaged them (foam rubber gook all over the discs). Fortunately for me, back when I got the box, Sony still had a toll-free customer service number you could call, and they replaced my discs. Nowadays, though, there's no such number.
  15. The worst I have is the Ella & Louis complete (Verve). When I bought it, I was not able to open... The Sony Charlie Christian box still takes First Prize for me--let's stuff some CDs in a block of foam rubber and see how badly we can schmutz 'em up!
  16. OK, OK . . . . I can take a hint. After the holidays, I'll get back to working on it.
  17. For the record, there is one 1940s JATP concert that is not included in the Verve box--a 1949 Carnegie Hall session for which Pablo (i.e., Concord/Fantasy), and not Verve, owns the rights: It's a real doozy and shouldn't be missed (just check out the lineup on the cover), and is available on a Pablo CD here. I have the Verve box and haven't listened to it in some time, but it's a great document of that genre and era if you can swing the cost.
  18. Just start mentioning the free CD codes in the BMG thread--you're WAY overdue. EDIT: Ooops--just noticed the code you posted 3 days ago. Well, it HAS been a whole 3 days since then, so you're still overdue.
  19. Dude, you better get on it!
  20. I added "Columbia" to the thread title, to avoid any further Roulette expectations being dashed.
