  1. Me too. And I think it would have been interesting. Try this site: http://www.joshhosler.biz/numberOneInHistory/selectMonth.htm It SHOULD cover most organissimo members--goes back to the 1890s. Not sure that's far back enough to cover Allen Lowe, however.
  2. Dude! It's a doo-wop classic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yh_mh0lv_Yg...feature=related
  3. Guy Mitchell, "Singing the Blues" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GLP7pzv0GY
  4. $12.49!?! Just looked it up on amazon.com: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- List Price: $38.98 Price: $38.98 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping. Details Special Offers Available Pre-order Price Guarantee. Details This title will be released on July 22, 2008. Well, it was $12.49--and available--when I posted that, and I got me a copy. In fact, it was available a few days later directly from Amazon for $11.99, and I ordered someone else a copy (and he has since received it). Note that at this very moment, Caiman is selling it brand spankin' new through Amazon Marketplace for $11.91: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00...GI/ref=dp_olp_2
  5. "The Best of Duke Ellington (1932-1939)" (Sony BMG/Columiba/RCA)--all 4 discs
  6. I'm in Seattle right now and went looking for Bud's today (not having previously seen this thread). The space is, indeed, vacant.
  7. Don't forget that this set also is being distributed by Universal. Although the Universal sets are not individually numbered, they are part of the 10,000 limit. As to how many Universal sets have been and/or remain to be sold, who knows? (Obviously, someone does. )
  8. The Complete Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong on Verve--all 3 discs
  9. Great. Now Ron's gonna gloat for the next 3 yrs. Naaaaaaah, I won't do that until after they've released the next two CDs, Funkadelphia and Greazadelphia (completing the Philly trilogy).
  10. With you guys, a couple of days seems like a month. Except for Alison, Zora, and Stella, of course. They--and Rachel--are welcome any time.
  11. Yeah, but I also gave you some real nice property with that:
  12. No, you change the title first, and THEN I'll donate $10,000--or any amount you want.
  13. But it'll be even more fair if the CD's title is Groovadelphia. (In case you were wondering. )
  14. I gave till it hurt.
  15. For anyone in the US looking for the Ellington set, it's now available for preorder at Amazon.com (to be released on 6/17/08) for only $12.49: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018BF1GI The Waller set is also available for preorder at Amazon.com (again to be released on 6/17/08) for only $11.49: http://www.amazon.com/RCA-Original-Masters...3694&sr=1-1
  16. Chris, I changed it--try it again. And then click the arrow to the left of track 15 (if you dare ).
  17. In honor of Jimmy McGriff, Jimmy Smith, Shirley Scott, Richard "Groove" Holmes, etc., etc., you GOTTA make the CD title "Groovadelphia." You just GOTTA!
  18. Didn't W. Marsalis (or maybe E. Dankworth) record something on an Edison cylinder a few years back? Did anyone hear the results? Yep, it was Wynton: Track 15
  19. I like that idea.. But don't you think the cover's kinda groovy, as in Groovadelphia?
  20. Billie Holiday, "Lady Day: The Master Takes and Singles" (Columbia/Legacy) Taking a stroll through all 4 discs.
  21. That's what I said too.. Well, it WOULD help us get some serious radio promotion in Philly. (And, you GOTTA have a title track. ) Guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is and become a patron.
  22. 15 years this coming September. To be precise, on 9/11.
  23. The first season was consistent all the way through. All of the memorable episodes are from that season. The monsters were introduced in subsequent seasons when corporate interests tried to dumb it down. Well, if we're talking about the original 1960s series, there were only 2 seasons (1963-65), and the first season had lots of the classic Outer Limits monsters. Also, the second season had some interesting episodes with minimal monster factor: http://www.innermind.com/outerlimits/guides/ol01.txt
  24. The Cleveland Orchestra is traditionally one of the "Big 5" American orchestras (along with Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and Boston). Best of the best, and all that.
