ESCAPE FROM MAINE - where to go?
Ron S replied to AllenLowe's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
You'd find a much more knowledgeable and enthusiastic audience for that kind of music in Philly. Just check out this thread: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=23111 -
Happy Birthday to one of this board's great natural resources (and you don't even cost over 120 bucks a barrel!).

Just saw this. Willow Grove, where Walt lived, is just a few miles from my house--I drive through it all the time, probably not far from his house (it's not that big of a town). I had always hoped that he might consent to perform somewhere in the area and I'd get to see him.

ESCAPE FROM MAINE - where to go?

There are no more Radcliffe girls (at least no current students). Philly's a great alternative to Boston. Lots of wonderful neighborhoods in the city and suburbs, culture, history, etc., but generally MUCH cheaper than Boston. Also, easy and quick access to NYC and DC. And if you're looking for a teaching gig, Philly has over 90 colleges/universities and over 300,000 students (assuming they'd let you near them). If you wanna know more, we should talk (too much to type here). In the meantime, take a look at this: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/traveler...510/philly.html -
Mine was shipped the day I ordered it, but I ordered it that morning as soon as I saw the email.

I saw Marcia Ball in Austin at the Broken Spoke, I think it was, in the late 1970s. Mighty fine, as I recall. I'd be more over the top about it, but I'm not O.T.T.-licensed yet.

Oscar Peterson Verve Trio Mosaic set on the horizon

I'd settle for a Penzance Select, or even a Mikado Single. -

Sure you don't mean Pinafore? Yeah, how 'bout a D'Oyly Carte Mosaic? -
Per an email from Laurie Pepper's site, the 2-disc 1981 Croydon, England concert has now been released: Just ordered me up a copy.

Jim and Alison, we were so sorry to hear about this. I know how close you were to Jim's dad, and what a positive influence he was in your lives. Our thoughts are with you.

Great deal!! Bill Evans: The Last Waltz
Ron S replied to mikelz777's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Another big thanks for the tip--I also took advantage of the "Secret Sessions" deal. -
Thanks for the head's up, Tom! I also had been looking for that at a reasonable price, and just grabbed one.

Holy Shit! It's TONIGHT???? I sorta lost touch, with the Board being down for a while, etc.. DAMN! Can't make it (other plans). DOUBLE DAMN! Kirby, you'll have to be there for the both of us, and give John my regrets. DAMN!

I watched the show after reading your post (I usually tape the show and watch it the next day). It looked to me that the drummer was playing live, at least the few times that I could see him. Maybe it was Larry who was actually on tape.

Any kind of warranty come with those?
-
Same here--although it was in the early '70s.

Chris, some of your smoke is also visible during the Bill Evans interview. From that camera angle, it almost looks like you were blowing smoke in his face.

Here's my rig: I guess I'm kinda due for an upgrade.

I just spoke to a supervisor at BMG customer service. Basically, there was a major fuck-up, and all the box sets were incorrectly marked down to those low, low prices. She said a few box sets have gone out at those prices, and they aren't going to do anything about those, but they've either cancelled or marked "returned" all the rest that they've been able to catch (and they won't be shipped at the extremely low prices). So that's it folks. It seemed like it was too good to be true, and it was. EDIT: Just to clarify, the charges for the sets marked "returned" have already been charged to our credit cards, but those sets will not be shipped and the charges will be refunded (hence being treated as "returned").
-
Yes--3 box sets were cancelled on an order I had placed for someone else. When I called BMG, I was told that the prices on those particular box sets (including the Ella Song Books at $29.33, incidentally) had been listed in error, and that was why they were cancelled from the order. Pretty crappy customer relations, IMO, but there doesn't seem to be anything that can be done about it. Ooops--just noticed that a few of the other sets are now shown as "returned" on the order history page. I'll have to call again and find out what's what--and maybe this time try to get to a higher level.

Thanks for the advice, Governor Spitzer, and welcome to the board! Good to hear you'll have more time to post! I said Brandi, not KRISTEN. And she's even more helpful than Action Jackson from the big Concord sale a couple of years ago.
-
If you haven't tried this already, call Concord Customer Service at (800) 551-5299 and ask for Brandi. She will contact the warehouse directly and find out what's up with this title. She's been very helpful to me on several occasions, and she's also pleasant and friendly.

Chuck, I got "Roamin' With Richardson" from Concord during their sale a couple of months ago, so they should still have it (it's one of the deleted titles of which they found copies when they moved the Fantasy stock to Ohio). Plus, you should get $1.10 off the $10.98 price when you add it to your cart. If you don't, try the CMG3 or CMG4 promo codes--I think they still work.
