  1. In the interim, here's how it comes out on this site: I especially liked this line: "On this CD also much space has been left for Jim Alfredson is beautiful and parties on both ham mouth and piano, an example of this is the song `People Say."
  2. It's not - I always did, too. As do I.
  3. The WHAT? The Persian structuring? Oh. Never mind.
  4. Peter, give me a call when you get in.
  5. Another big thanks for posting that! I'm a big Contemporary/Roy DuNann/Howard Holzer fan, and am constantly amazed whenever I play one of their recordings. Fascinating article!
  6. Those are M, W, and F evenings, and don't resume again until Wednesday, 1/16.
  7. Who's at Ortlieb's? Their web site still has the December schedule up.
  8. Good. We were hoping you'd bring your guitar.
  9. Joe Gloss (of organissimo), Rachel (of the Board), Leslie (of my house), and I are going to see the Maria Schneider Orchestra this Friday at Art After 5 at the Art Museum (5:00-8:45 PM). Any other Phillyissimo members planning to attend? (And yes, this will be exactly one year after the triumphant debut by organissimo at the same venue. )
  10. In that case, yes, I WOULD like a cart. And can you tell me how to get to the jazz CD section? I'm planning to fill this sucker up to the brim.
  11. Next weekend for you: Philly Cheesesteak. Or maybe not.
  12. I just HATE it when I end up paying a buck more than I had to. Really ruins my year.
  13. . . . just like these:
  14. They're messin' with us.
  15. They've now raised the price to $9.47. Glad I got my order in yesterday--thanks to this thread--when the price was still in the $3 range. Of course, $9.47 for a 2-disc set like this one ain't too bad, either.
  16. An early example of using "Sex" to market music.
  17. Assuming this is the Goodman session (which it seems to be), Mosaic describes it as a sextet, but it's actually an octet: 28 October 1940 New York Adlib Blues Charlie's Dream I Never Knew Lester's Dream Wholly Cats Clarinet: Benny Goodman Piano: Count Basie Guitar: Charlie Christian, Freddy Green Bass: Walter Page Drums: Jo Jones Trumpet: Buck Clayton Tenor Sax: Lester Young http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/hansen/Charlie/ccdisc.htm#GUEST EDIT: However, this session is included in the Charlie Christian "The Genius of the Electric Guitar" box (and perhaps elsewhere), and is also described there as a sextet. Maybe Mosaic decided that, given the gunked-up discs in Sony's horrendous packaging of the Christian box, this session deserves another chance.
  18. Presumably, except for the Hardman and Goodman sessions. He's there too! Presumption rebutted.

  23. Blackhawk in "Last Chance," 65-68 and Coltrane in "Running Low." Here.
  24. I'm not sure that all of the titles that have been disappearing from the site the past few days are necessarily gone for good. The site contains the following statement: "Please note, we only show store search results for releases currently in stock in the ConcordMusicGroup.com web store." I recommend checking any title of interest on Amazon, and if Amazon itself is still selling it on a current basis, and several Marketplace sellers are selling it at reasonable prices, it's probably not OOP (or at least not yet scarce). On the other hand, you'll find that some of the titles in this sale are being sold on Amazon only by a couple of Marketplace sellers--if any--and for extremely high prices. Those, of course, are the ones to grab from the Concord sale. Speaking of which, a nice little CD that seems to be still available in the Concord sale, but is only available from a few Amazon Marketplace sellers for $47 USED and $90 new, is Ruth Price with Shelly Manne & His Men at the Manne-Hole: Track samples are available on Amazon. Very nice live recording of a rarely recorded singer (sort of a cross between Anita O'Day and June Christy) with wonderful backing by Manne and his Men. If I didn't already have it, I'd grab it.
