  1. A couple of CDs full of jazz covers of classical pieces on Venus: John DiMartino's trio covering various Mozart pieces and Steve Kuhn's trio covering various pieces by Chopin, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, Debussy, Rachmaninov, Faure, and Brahms
  2. Wow! 9 bucks per LP. Considering what those sets go for on Ebay now, . . . .
  3. J.A.W. did not accept several adverse discussions. He is unfortunately out of here. I'm really sorry to hear that. I hope he eventually returns.
  4. Jim, really glad to hear she's doing well. She's a terrific kid! Hope we get to see her again soon (and she can even bring the rest of the family, if she wants to. ). You did a fantastic job handling this (much better than I would have done ). Tell Alison that I was only kidding about the lawsuit . But I am always available for free legal advice should she or Zora ever need it in the future .

  6. Herbie Nichols, "The Complete Blue Note Recordings"--all 3 discs
  7. Personally, I'd rate the Cole Porter and Duke Ellington song books as at least as good as the Gershwin set, which was very fine. One of the nicer aspects of Ella's treatments of these songs is that she always sang the verse. It's one of the features that so excited the composers who were still living when she recorded them. As I recall, the Harold Arlen is also a great one--sorta took me by surprise the first time I heard it.
  8. What about that guy Richard Starkey?
  9. You'll love it. It's a phenomenal set!
  10. Buddy Rich, discs 5-7 No Jim Nabors in this set . . . . . . yet.
  11. Too late! Goober has already demanded that you return the personally inscribed photo:
  12. One of my favs. Especially the Sergeant Carter sessions. Yes! And Goober was a nice surprise as a sideman on those. Dude, Goober isn't even on those sessions--he's on the Mayberry sessions. Furthermore, if you had bothered to read the booklet that came with the set, you'd have seen this rare Francis Wolff color photo from one of those sessions:

  14. You mean that I'm on those recordings with Buddy??? How could I have forgotten working with such a sweetheart? How are you liking it? I've only made it through the first 2 discs so far and, so far so good. I really liked the last session on Disc 2 with Barney Kessel.

  16. I used to be proud of my post count. Then Aggie blew past me, and I realized that any fool can run up a high post count.
  17. As I indicated previously, I've learned to manage my Caiman expectations. Today, however, I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a fairly rare CD from them last night (they had the best price by far), and as soon as the transaction had cleared, I checked Caiman's individual Amazon listing page which indicates the quantity of the particular CD that Caiman or its suppliers pruportedly have in stock (there's a convoluted pathway you can click through to get to the Amazon Marketplace seller listing for an item you've purchased, if anyone's interested). Well, after my purchase, the listing indicated that Caiman was then sold out of the CD (supposedly meaning that I had gotten the last one). In the past, I've found that any Caiman listing that did not indicate a fairly large quantity in stock (i.e., 10 or more) would mean that my order ultimately would not be filled, and I'd have to cancel. Well, lo and behold, this afternoon I received a shipping notice from Caiman (remember that I just placed my order last night). I don't know whether Caiman has actually improved (it does appear that their favorable rating percentage has gone up to something like 93%, iirc), or this time I just got lucky.
  18. Dude, get a life.

  20. That'd be quite a comeback.
  21. Well?
