  1. You mean if we borrowed some of their smileys, there'd be a fight like this? How dare they! They'd have a lot of nerve, accusing us of using their smileys!
  2. You shut the hell up before we kick your ass outa here.
  3. I've been paying $20+ for many years now (5 or 6 times a year). Plus tip, of course. And trust me, my hair ain't nothin' special. Granted, I don't go to a men-only barber-pole-out-front kind of place, which probably explains the higher cost.
  4. In the Upper West Side?
  5. I think this order was in before Ron depleted BMG's stock. I think that's why my other orders haven't shipped yet. What can I say? My mouse fingers get twitchy sometimes, and I just can't seem to stop 'em.
  6. You're probably fairly safe, unless they start humming Sondheim tunes:
  7. Bev, any recent haircut photos to share? I've been waiting on those ever since the last ones you posted here shortly before you left a few years ago.
  8. The Horace Silver "Further Explorations" was one of the Spanish Blue Notes with the blue tinted cover photo. I couldn't find a picture of that version so I included a picture of the regular issue in my original post. Unfortunately, when I attempted to play the Silver CD, my player would not read it. I thought it was a problem with my player but I took the disc out and looked at it to discover two long scuff marks crossing over half the disc. It's unplayable. This was a brand-new, sealed disc! I didn't even bother to look at it before putting it in my player but I'm certain my player would not and did not make those marks. They had another copy there and I hope to exchange it tomorrow. Terrific sound on that Spanish Blue Note release, by the way--it's a Japanese remastering.
  9. Ooops.
  10. I waited FOREVER for this to hit the great BMG-Direct Empire, and finally grabbed it somewhere else a year or so after it was originally released. Makes you wonder why some items like this show up at BMG after they've been out for a couple of years.
  11. Thanks, Sandi! Fascinating! I remember seeing your Lighthouse avatar and references over at AAJ when I used to go there, and I always wondered how you had become so intimately familiar with it and the incredible legends who played there. I look forward to your posting lots more stories here!
  12. Sandi, what a great story! Pardon my ignorance, but what was/is your relationship with the Lighthouse?
  13. You can always delete a post ("delete" button at bottom right of post).
  14. Eula, thanks for the excellent--and somewhat Faulkneresque --summary.
  15. For those of us who stopped visiting AAJ some time ago, is there a short version of what happened over there that anyone cares to share?
  16. Derailing a thread to this extent is an art form (and in this case, you'll notice, took the joint efforts of several talented individuals).
  17. Were you into the late-60s/early 70s syndicated ones with the outrageous psychedelic sets & hosted by Gary Moore? Those were my favorite! Nothing could beat Bud Collyer and his psychedelic bow ties.
  18. No kidding! I was somewhat addicted to "To Tell the Truth" in the 60s - and 70s, too. "Accomplished radio actor Bud Collyer was Superman's voice from 1940-1950. As the first man to ever play Superman, he defined the Man of Steel for a whole generation of radio listeners." http://xroads.virginia.edu/~ug02/superman/origins.html
  19. FINALLY, Chuck has something substantive to add to this thread.
  20. If I have to look at Marilyn Monroe's booby hanging out one more time, well, I may just have to go misattribute.
  21. Couldn't afford the shipping costs of the B3... Not to mention the costs of shipping Jim, Joe, and Randy. Looks like a terrific lineup, by the way.
  22. Did you know that Bud Collyer was the first Superman on the radio? My dad hipped me to that when we were watching Bud host "To Tell the Truth" back in the '60s.
  23. What????? No organissimo this year?????? I guess I'll cancel my reservations.
  24. Not until you tell us your first name. <----------(for Dan)
  25. Whenever I hear about Georgia Frontiere, what immediately comes to mind is: Some well-entrenched childhood TV memories.
