Apparently, not everyone was happy with the opening ceremonies: Rupert Murdoch: 'Olympic ceremony was too politically correct'

"Coronation Street", "Keeping Up Appearances" and more... He was a funny guy. Voice of Paul in Yellow Submarine too.

Larry King on "Miami Undercover" (1961) (first 90 seconds) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58wvAzd0Pwc -
Other than the clearly obvious big events, WTC, moon walk, etc., there were two similar events - both funeral parades - that had me completely spellbound with cassette recorders hooked to the TV recording the moment. In February '84, Andropov had died and the funeral parade was being broadcast. During the moment when his coffin was lowered, the city erupted into this miraculous moment of beautiful cacophony of every siren, every factory whistle, every foghorn blaring as loud as possible. I think there were rounds of gunfire too. I remember being angry that the newspeople covering it wouldn't shut up, so I turned the channel over to Charlie Rose who sat completely quiet during this astounding noise fest that went on for many minutes. About a year later, I'd get to relive (and re-record) this moment when Chernenko died. I'm reminded of the inelegant statement by Reagan: "how can I get anyplace with the Russians if they keep dying on me."

I just couldn't imagine... “It’s hard to position her and find her pleasure spots as she has a lot of fat in the pelvic area,” he told the magazine. “But it turns me on knowing she’s satisfied. Although once, when she got on top, I couldn’t breathe.” Sexhundred pounds

Dutch news give Angela Merkel 'Hitler mustache' -
There's even less effort than that, since the discography is on the same page as the bio.

There was a time when it was a real pain in the butt, but I think it was in transition to this new phase. I like it now. You can type anything in the search box. You no longer have to stipulate artist, song, album title, etc and it finds it for you. When you type "The Band", for example, it shows you the artist, then after clicking on it, you get a full bio and discography. Much easier - finally!

Apparently, today wasn't a very good day in music.

Bahamanian guitarist Joseph Spence (r.i.p.)
rostasi replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Artists
Wow, that topic title did a number on me..."didn't he die nearly 30 years ago?" I was asking myself. Yes, Spence was a real original. Start with "Good Morning Mr. Walker." -
Yes, that and Welfare State got many plays at home back in the early '70s. Here he is (48 minutes!) with Alan Niblock and Steve Noble at The City of Derry Jazz & Big Band Festival.

Can't stomach Toop, but I got thru the bit where he speaks about Lol's tune "Murder in the Air." I'd recommend a wonderful, silly version of him singing this tune on the album below. It's a 12 minute medley of "We Did It Again" & "Murder in the Air" which is a beautiful chaos with Lol happily telling us after his speech-song that he composed that tune followed by talking about "5-bob flights" and people looking like dots on the ground, and other silliness while the band is smashing around on their instruments in the background. Quite fun (as is the rest of the double-disc set if you're an Ayers fan).

Well, I know what you mean...the letter mentions some info concerning some financial backing plans, ideas, etc. so I'm hoping for a bit of wiggle-room on price without, yes, really knowing. I do remember the troubles surrounding the Taylor/Oxley and the inordinately looong time it took for that to come out and this is where my concerns about release date stem. Anyway, if I hear about a price, I'll try to mention it as soon as I can.

"Uncle" Lionel Batiste, the Treme Brass Band’s longtime bass drummer and a beloved, dapper character who reveled in charming women of all ages on the dance floor, died early Sunday at Ochsner Baptist Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. He was 80.

Got a letter last week from Triple Point Records: "...Next on the horizon is a 5-LP boxed edition of hitherto unreleased 1964-65 recordings by the New York Art Quartet (John Tchicai, Roswell Rudd, Milford Graves, etc.) ...We have optimized four hours of music by the band, from six separate episodes. This quantity of music more than doubles the published output by this seminal band and, in our humble opinion, greatly extends the outfit's already formidable reputation as free jazz pioneers. Call It Art will be a 5-LP set with a 156-page hardcover book, housed in a custom wooden box. The project aims to be definitive: rare and unpublished photos, a comprehensive history of the band, and of course superlative audio quality... ...We are pleased to report that, based on investments to date, we have been able to handsomely compensate in advance nearly all of the 11 performers..." The letter also states a release date of late this summer, but if their history is any indication, I'd say that it'd be 2013 - if we're lucky. Anyway, I expect to receive future updates. ®ø∂

Yup...always liked that version. The LPs have more music than the CD BTW. Ol' Andy seemed like a nice man - lived a full life. Sorry to hear he's gone. He was the "awwww" and the "Shucks."
