  3. Not surprised to read that. No one I speak to at jazz gigs streams jazz, as I do. They're almost all in my age group - I'm 77 - have been diggin' the sounds since c.1960 and, in some cases, have never used a computer. I guess it's just the continued influence of my daughters, aged 30 and 36, that got me into streaming. IMO jazz and streaming belong in different eras - one half a century ago, one of today. I think the Huffington Post's figures bear that out.

  6. Yes, one of the best Le Carrés. Wikipedia's lengthy summary of the plot suggests filmmakers would have quite a job on their hands: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Honourable_Schoolboy
  7. Always loved "Warming Up a Riff" - perhaps my favorite snippet of studio Bird. Live fave would probably be "All the Things" from Apartment Sessions.
  8. His Wikipedia entry says he left the music business in the late 1950s. I think I read somewhere that he was driving a taxi sometime after that. Sadly for him, jazz bass playing had moved on. A bass player friend of mine in the sixties was very critical of of Russell's playing - and of some others of his era - pointing out "wrong notes" he was playing on Parker-era recordings. Of course, my friend went into raptures over Paul Chambers and Doug Watkins. Percy Heath seemed to be the first of the new generation that he could stomach. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curley_Russell

  12. All frequent visitors here - long may they so remain in the face of dwindling gig opportunities. Didn't I hear that this is Swanage's last?
  13. Another fine Silver/Mobley/Byrd/Watkins album. As for the Miles, I should have been there, but went home to Leeds during the student vacation. My student friend, the late Jack Massarik, was there
  14. Undisputed classic!
