  3. So pleased I managed to see the Muddy Waters Blues Band. It was in 1969 in the unlikely setting of the Variety Club in the small town of Batley in Yorkshire. (Mind you, they also got Louis Armstrong on another occasion!) The Waters band was in a package with the Horace Silver Quintet (Brecker Bros) and a gospel group (Stars of Faith?) 👍
  4. Some brilliant trumpet on this one!
  5. Yes, long a favorite. 👍

  7. Pleased to see Manchester Public Libraries have ordered this book, so have placed a reservation. (Asking price here is £42.19).
  8. In a way it's seeming a bit dated during the reread (published 1985.) In a book focussed on on omnipresent things in contemporary American society such as supermarkets and television, the absence of internet technology now seems all too noticeable. An interesting departure from the original text in the 2022 film is that the protagonist's Jewish co-worker is now an African American played by Don Cheadle.
  9. 👍 Now rereading after seeing the recent film:
  10. I can't do much more than try to identify some of the tunes. Track 3 "Like Someone in Love" Track 4: How well I know this tune, but can't put a name to it! Track 5: "God Bless the Child"(?) Track 6: Charlie Parker's "Au Privave" Track 10: "Tickle Toe"
  11. Yes, a very good one, not heard before. Particularly interesting choice of tunes. Both "O.D." and "Dizzy Moods" were in the "Now where have I heard that before?" category. (McLean/Redd and Mingus, respectively).
  12. Now listening for the first time and very nice too! Variants on classic Parker tunes as can also be heard on Red Rodney's Then and Now.
