  1. Belated best wishes!
  2. The endings of both those pieces are absolutely joyous. There's some darkness along the way, but the endings are pure sunlight. For me anyway. ← One man's darkness is another man's joy. ← Quite.
  3. Apparently Medjuck and Free For All missed the Mighty Quinn thread, and this thread.
  4. Probably remastered that way - maximization of sound levels is a mastering disease nowadays.
  5. The Hoffman remastered DCC CDs are by far the best digital versions of these great albums, much easier on the ears than the K2s or XRCDs in my opinion. Unfortunately, they're OOP and pretty expensive when you can find them used.
  6. You tell them, Brownie. ← We're not far behind in the Netherlands, with 19% VAT on CDs, and we're even ahead with VAT on books, 6%! Isn't VAT in Denmark or Sweden even higher?
  7. which should answer your question I guess. Cheers, Tjobbe ← Thanks! The Basie would be a steal, but... I just decided against getting it *now* - I hope JPC has the sets for a while! 16% and rising, my God! And now with the "grosse Koalition" and Stoiber sabotaging everything, they will probably raise it to 50% in order to be able to skip any necessary reforms... and it's such an utterly *fair* form of paying taxes, istn't it? First of all it's clear to everybody why and what for one pays it, and second - and that's the best part of it - everybody pays the same amount. That's what I call leninist-trotzkist! ← Errm... Are you turning this into a political thread?
  8. I'm really looking forward to the Pepper Adams.
  9. Happy birthday and many more to come!
  10. I think picnics are more a French and English thing.
  11. I agree. The full title is Eastward Ho! Harold Land in New York, and the number is OJCCD-493
  12. My European keyboard has one ← I don't know if it works with your keyboard, but press the upper case " key first and then the lower case a.
  13. My European keyboard has one
  14. The performances of Verklärte Nacht by the Hollywood String Quartet (Testament), the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra (DG), and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Herbert von Karajan (DG), though very different, are my favorites.
  15. The performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra under Bernard Haitink (EMI) is my favorite.
  16. Calling it a discrepancy is a nice way of putting it... Like Randy, I'd call it greed. By the way, congratulations
  17. You can switch to English, just click on the U.K. or U.S. flag at the top of the JPC home page.
  18. You're right, the sound wasn't very good. I had the LP (Blue Note LT-1057), didn't like the date, hated the sound and got rid of it.
  19. Try Mahler's 9th - now there's a dark, brooding piece for you... It has its pompous moments, but it's one of the darkest pieces I've ever heard.
  20. Both CDs are gone.
  21. If I remember correctly, there's a post or two about that somewhere; these albums probably wouldn't sell enough copies, so... To be honest, I'm glad someone other than Ron McMaster has remastered them. I've got nothing against mr McMaster, but I can't say I like his masterings - particularly some of the more recent ones.
  22. Boots ← I don't think so, as far as I know these are legit. ← Mighty Quinn thread
  23. Boots ← I don't think so, as far as I know these are legit.
  24. CDUniverse links: Pepper Adams Harold Land
  25. Hang in there Alan, and all the best for the future!
