No heresy at all----I tend to like the Riversides better too, Paul. I also really like Big Six, though. ← I fully agree. My favorite Riversides are Big 6, with Curtis Fuller, Johnny Griffin, Wynton Kelly, Wilbur Ware, and Philly Joe Jones Out of the Blue, quintet sides with Benny Golson, Wynton Kelly or Cedar Walton, Paul Chambers or Sam Jones, and Art Blakey Blue Soul, quartet/sextet sides with Curtis Fuller, Jimmy Heath, Wynton Kelly, Sam Jones, and Philly Joe Jones Blue's Moods, quartet sides with Wynton Kelly, Sam Jones, and Roy Brooks A Sure Thing, quintet/nonet sides with Clark Terry, Julius Watkins, Jerome Richardson, Jimmy Heath, Pepper Adams or Pat Patrick, Wynton Kelly, Sam Jones, and Albert Heath The Cup Bearers, quintet sides with Junior Cook, Cedar Walton, Gene Taylor, and Roy Brooks Edited to correct an album title.

Proper Box, Mosaic and Eldridge set Question
J.A.W. replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
As far as I'm concerned the same goes for many of those other European labels, like Definitive, JSP (with the exception of their early, J.R.T. Davies remastered sets), etc. ← Gotta disagree. Proper is by far the worst of these labels sonically. I don't endorse the thievery of any of them, but a number of the Definitive releases demonstrate that somebody with pretty good ears is behind their efforts. JSP has become a bit more hit and miss, but they are usually no WORSE than the competition on given titles......whereas Proper seems to find new ways to screw up the sonic qualities of all that they touch. ← OK, I agree Proper is the worst sounding of 'em all, but I don't like the others either. They often sound bright and loud. By the way, if Definitive and the others do indeed "borrow" their masterings and only maximize sound levels and tamper with EQ - and I've heard many times that they do - there would hardly be any "efforts" on their part. -

To paraphrase Dylan: he's younger than that now...

Never seen that one on CD.

Quote from the liner notes: Reminiscences of charming ladies inspired Andy's "Delories" and "Cici's Delight" (...) On the other hand, "Cici" is full of surprises: there are sudden rhythmic stops, but always a return to a pulsating flow. (Since she is a musician in her own right, Cici should indeed be delighted). The notes were written by Chips Bayen. By the way, "Hominy Grits" is spelled correctly on the Japanese K2.
-
My Riverside disco gives 1962 as the recording date of the second album, that's all.
-
According to the liner notes (very hard to read, the print is extremely small on these mini-LP sleeves...) it's "Cici's Delight".
-
P.S. My Japanese Riverside disco doesn't give an exact recording date, just 1961.
-
According to the insert of my Japanese 20-bit K2 remaster New Jazz Frontiers from Washington was recorded in NYC on July 17, 1961. The track is spelled "Cici's Delight" on the same insert, as well as on the back cover; it has the same title in my Japanese "Riverside Jazz Records" discography.

Found that out on another forum. He's quite secretive, our friend...
