  1. According to the March 2004 Mosaic brochure it's the Dean Benedetti/Charlie Parker set (Mosaic 129).

Just for your information, behind DISCONFORME is hiding BLUE MOON who owns the much celebrated label FRESH SOUND. Thanks for that - I saw (on the Disconforme site), that they are distributing Lonehill. Did anyone find out if Freshsound and Disconforme are the same, fundamentally? Or just closely linked? ubu Ubu, There have been several discussions on the board about this - can't seem to find them right now. Bottom line: yes, they're very closely linked.
  5. You can always bid on my Japanese mini-LP copy here
  6. Younger posters? Surely not all of 'em...

I've just ordered it from Jon. Will report here when my CD player's fixed - hopefully this year... He-he, that's what Soviet psycho-analysts called "involvement through imposed controversy". La Voyelle Liquide is a terrific disc. Strange... Actually, I ordered it a month ago but asked Jon to hold it for me - I "activated" the order before I posted here. What would those Soviet psycho-analysts have said about that, I wonder...

I know, and I will not pick it up.
  10. I'm guessing that one didn't sell as well in Japan as the "regular" TOCJs / JRVGs.
  11. Toshiba wouldn't do it if the disks wouldn't sell.
  12. Supposing these are RVG remasters.
  13. ...or €11.80

Yes! This disc is fantastic! Drake and Rudolph go way back and are very sympathetic to each other's playing. I thought I read somewhere that this had gone oop? It HAS gone OOP, but a few copies are still available from Downtown Music Gallery; price: a whopping $20. I assume DMG is exaggerating a bit - this is a relatively recent relase (2000?) - I remember theeir long-OOP!!!!! impossible to find!!!!!!!!! last batch ever!!!!!!!!! miracously found in Brooklin basement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zappa CDs (that can be easily obtained through zappa.com). No mentioning about it gooing OOP in Meta site (updated several days ago) either. Forced Exposure and Jazz Loft (the store you get when you click on the "credit card order" link on the Meta site) don't have it, and The Music Resource site says "temporarily out" (which is their way of saying it's OOP), so I'm guessing it really is out of print. It's still listed on the "mail order" page on the Meta site, though.

  16. This is beginning to look like The Son of Funny Rat
  17. not from own experience but from reading all the raving on various boards, I'd say the Koch disks get SMOKED beyond recognition... Well, it's not THAT bad, but the Mosaics are WAAAAAYYYYY ahead! B)

    proper reissues

You're absolutely right, it's impossible to draw the line, but buying Definitive, Proper, post-John R.T. Davies JSP (I have some JRTD-remastered JSP sets, and they're great), etc. just doesn't feel good, so I don't. Oh, and I never denied being inconsistent

    proper reissues

but does Proper borrow? I think that is the question here. The answer is surely yes in some, but certainly not in all cases. A set like the "Swing Tanzen Verboten!" one, is highly unlikely to be a rip off of other sources, I should think, and a good buy if you want some obscure European music from Nazi times, with an interesting booklet to go with that. Other sets plainly reek of dark business, stealing masters elsewhere, going through the trouble of "touching them up" to make them sound like original, own mastering jobs. Then again I have read (here? elsewhere?) that although a Mosaic rip-off on the surface, judging merely by track title, a certain Proper set turned out to be an original remaster after all; maybe I misread though. Well, even if they've only "borrowed" once, they're out as far as I'm concerned. Same goes for JSP, Definitive, etc.

    proper reissues

There's been some discussion on cheap labels like Proper, JSP, etc. in other threads. I choose not to buy from labels that seem to "borrow" their remasterings.

CD Connection is not always cheaper than CD Universe; for instance, the hybrid SACD version of Thelonious Monk's Brilliant Corners is $19.98 from CD Connection and currently $17.09 from CD Universe (though that's the pre-order sale price; it'll be higher soon), while Paul Bley's Nothing to Declare is $15.02 from CD Connection and $11.89 from CD Universe. It's worth checking out though, since it's the other way around with other CDs and, like Д.Д. said, CD Connection's shipping rates to Europe are generally lower than CD Universe's rates.
  22. Hiroshi told me Toshiba hadn't announced (yet) who remastered this TOCJ series.

As far as I know the Japanese 2CD-set is no longer available. It's pretty hard to find at a reasonable price.
  24. I don't think so. The "Blue Note Works" TOCJs were never 24-bit remastered, just 16-bit and 20-bit.
  25. Now don't you know couw like's Mosaics about as much as he likes Miles? ubu You'd be surprised!
