  1. I tried connecting my laptop to the tv to stream Netflix and the results were less than satisfactory. I am toying with this idea of a Roku, or possibly a Mac Mini running Boxee, which would also allow Netflix streaming, but the quality was so poor, we stopped watching after a few minutes. On the other hand, streaming directly to my laptop has been fantastic.
  2. I'd like: Johnny Lytle Trio Big John Patton Minor Swing
  3. A lot of these recent comments sound like y'all are talking about the jam bands of the nineties and their progression into this decade as mega-acts and festival headliners.
  4. If you feel like this is directed at you, it probably is. Please cool it.
  5. Definitely. couw was a favorite.
  6. I wouldn't think so JPF, but I've never lost a playlist. That I remember...
  7. I'd be curious to hear what you guys thought of the upcoming release from a quartet out of Richmond, VA, which in my mind, very well fits into the avant-rock era. I wouldn't call it fusion or prog, though I feel like it certainly could have come out during those times and would have been well received. The compositions are written by Bryan Hooten (trombone, Fight The Big Bull). Trey Pollard plays electric guitar, Cameron Ralston plays bass (my brother), and Brian Jones plays drums. Based on reviews, the album has been well-received, though I seem to be hearing the music very differently than the reviewers. As a whole, the album has so much space and atmosphere. I don't quite know what to compare it to. Maybe one of you will have a frame of reference. I have recommended a handful of albums from this Richmond scene in recent months (Fight The Big Bull, M.A.P. Trio, Glows In The Dark, etc.), and I think this is yet another album that will further strengthen the "up and coming" status that many have pinned. The official album release date is the last week of April, but I have had a copy for some time. I designed the packaging. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. OMBAK | Framing the Void Though I think the album works best as a whole, two tunes can be sampled here: Click here.
  8. As The Leslie Turns.
  9. I'm going to be in-and-out on this one. Banning members should be the absolute last straw, and I think Jim has been very judicious with his executive power. Members requesting that other members be banned should be done through PM to administrators. Members should not hit "Add Reply" after typing a personal attack into the "Reply" field. If folks are THAT irked by other members and can't actually ignore said members, they ought to consider the "ignore" feature and be done with it. No reason to make it known that you are ignoring someone either.
  10. I don't know... I generally hold the door for perfect strangers, men and women alike. Just sort of customary I guess.
  11. I don't see a difference in response time, after upgrading today. Maybe I need to reboot? I have an external hd connected via firewire (approx 170GB so far). I only ever use itunes to manually sync ipods...
  12. No mention of the grand larceny in right field? Prince was robbed!!! And what a ninth... Today was easier to watch, albeit, in 70• weather, in the comfort of my den.
  13. Where in VA? I may be able to refer very good legal defense.
  14. wow. eight years ago, and many of us are still around... lots of names that i haven't seen in a while. the way back machine!
  15. My favorite type of post. The cross-reference.
  16. I own a used copy of Abbey Road. Aside from that, I have never bought/stolen a Beatles album in any format. I still find that hard to believe. I'll probably pick up a few of my favorite Beatles albums when these #9 reissues come around.
  17. I don't know about where you are Dan, but the NESN HD feed looks like sh!t here through TWC. If I *were* on the fence about buying the ticket, this wouldn't push me over. I'll settle for WGN, ESPN, and FOX. Still, I'm glad to have caught my NL team's opening day yesterday, and my AL team's opening day today.
  18. reissue mono vinyl
  19. Zambrano rung up five of the last seven batters. Six K's so far. Lou looks like he's considering the pull... GO CUBS!
  20. Randy, the slimdevices.com forums are very busy on a daily basis. You ought to do a search there, or open a thread. You will have multiple answers almost immediately.
  21. that's falsetto?
  22. Not unless you can help score us a gig on May 2nd. :blush2: John, you've got to take Reptet to Richmond VA. Check out Fight the Big Bull, Ombak, Glows In The Dark, etc. Let me know if you are interested. You guys would fit the scene perfectly!
  23. I don't think he's "weak". He's got his skill set. My impression of his style is small, rapid strokes. He doesn't have a "big" sound, in my experience. He seems to have more of a quick, tapping style. Not necessarily swinging either, but he does seem to focus on polyrhythms, ornate patterns, and reactive accompaniment. I haven't heard Alchemia. What makes you consider him weak? Just curious, because I have mixed emotions about his approach as well.
