  1. My favorite artist of the moment is Ombak. They have a new release due out in April. Trombone, guitar, bass, drums. Original compositions. I did the artwork. My brother plays the bass. Let me know if you are interested in a copy!
  2. I sampled a few streams through netflix on the laptop this evening for the first time. Just recently bought a wrt54GL router for $38 on ebay. I've been on B for all these years. The quality seems ok.
  3. Ok. Everywhere but here, I read much more grounded reviews. You guys have no issues streaming? I'd even consider a mac mini running boxee. I know there are BR players that have streaming capabilities. Blockbuster has partnered with Tivo... I hunk I like the mac mini boxee solution best, though a bit more expensive.
  4. If not then Dreams So Real would be the obvious choice for the Carla Bley factor. Great record. Definitely. That would have been my recommendation.
  5. You said you had a few Burton ECMs already...
  6. My brother gave this to me for my birthday one year. It was my introduction to Wayne Shorter, the band leader. I turned around and gave that copy to an alto player in town about a year later. He gave me some Dexter Gordon albums. Along with Side 2, I always loved listening to that Jimmy Rowles tune.

  8. If your TV has more than one input (and most do), you should be just fine. Keep me posted re: the squeezeboom. Prices have been fluctuating in recent months and I've considered getting one for the kitchen that I could also take out into the yard when we are having folks over...
  9. My thoughts are with him. I met him a few years back in Boston. Surely, he doesn't remember me, but he was an encyclopedia of knowledge. I could have sat with him for hours.
  10. Why not?
  11. I am using 128-bit WEP. If you plan to use it for internet radio, or any of the streaming services that have been popping out over the past two years, you can specify which port(s) you want to allow in/out traffic. Ideally, I'd like to have a dedicated "server" for the squeezebox. Low consumption, quiet, "headless"... a mac mini or something similar. I haven't explored options in a while. I've never heard of Unirex. I think Squeezebox is a safe bet, having recently been bought by Logitech. Open-source, large developer community, ability to control through various devices, most recently including iPod touch and iPhone, which is killer. SLIM DEVICES FORUMS. Go here for more information than you can shake a stick at.
  12. I have been using a squeezebox for about three years now. No connectivity problems. Tom, the forums at slimdevices.com are very helpful.

  14. Thanks guys! I know a little good news goes a long way!
  15. Absolutely Dan! This girl's bound to be a fan of all that Blue Note, Lucky Thompson, and, of course, my brother's music! We've been playing a lot of these around the house lately! A man can dream!
  16. I guess its all out there if you're looking. I'm sure I could find some smack in about twenty minutes this evening if I wanted to.
  17. She's twenty weeks in and we are so happy... I absolutely lost it today in the car, laughing and crying hysterically. The most I have felt in a while. We had an ultrasound this morning. First thing we saw was the hiney and a lack of external sexual organs. I'm going to have a little girl! What a day! A little girl!!!
  18. For $99, it seems too good to be true. I've wondered about quality. Quite a few devices now streaming netflix. Thanks for the info Chris. Please keep me updated...
  19. I'm interested.
  20. My favorite album under Karl Berger's name, and the absolute worst cover art I have ever seen. Nothing here works. The music, however, is fantastic. My recommendation: buy the album. If its a CD, turn the booklet inside out so the liner notes are the cover. If its an lp... well...
  21. I saw the term a couple years ago, basically what I get is its a term for people that have a taste for more underground hip hop acts with a lighter style of rap, more up beat. In addition to the Roots, groups like Blackalicious, Black Star, De La Soul, Jurasic 5, Mos Def, Pharcide. I would say my taste in hop hop would make me a "backpacker". Originally it was a slang term from the 1980s for a graffiti artist who always wore a backpack containing his music collection. That makes a lot of sense. Have you ever heard Siah and Yeshua DapoED The Visualz EP?
