It seems that Brubeck's 'All the Things We Are' (which features Braxton on two tracks) should be a kind of hate-album for some of you guys! Seriously, I think the list lumps together the great and the merely very good, so it is no surprise that people might say, well, they don't care for Brubeck etc. If there were only greats it might be a harder pick. But I also think the question isn't good - there is a difference between getting into (i.e. you enjoy to pass the time listening to the recordings) and recognising the importance of. Like, for me, I don't pass much time listening to recordings of Haydn, and I wouldn't go out of my way to hear concert performances of his work - but that doesn't mean I don't think he isn't crucial - just, I get it, and I spend time on other things).

Some metadata problems in Spotify, mostly around classical music. Some of the entries are muddled or ALL IN CAPS - look for the Berwald syms on EMI Gemini and try to figure out what you are looking at. But more serious, composers are often not shown. So look for Ciccolini's set of Satie recordings under 'Satie' and you just won't find it. Search for 'Ciccolini' and there it is. It seems that many entries avoid this problem by entering the composer in the album title, so perhaps the lesson has been learned, but had a better format been devised no work-around would have been required. I'd say that it is a real slip-up to reproduce the mistake of iTunes where the format of the metadata reflects pop but not classical data requirements. This will be a bottle-neck for classical access in the future. Probably these untidy entries will have to be done again - remember how long it took Amazon to even begin to sort out the mess around searching for classical music, still a mess by the way. Finally, IMO composer data should also be avaialble for all the pop/jazz entries - logically enough it is something you would search on. I think they built in problems which the iTunes and amazon examples should have taught them to avoid. Those companies had some excuse perhaps, back in the day, but I think Spotify missed an opportunity to get it right.

That's a nice CD I've had for many years. What I'd really like to hear is one recorded at Ronnies around the same time (might even be from the same concert) that originally came out on the brief PYE based Ronnie Scott label. George Coleman: Live Ronnie Scott’s Club, London, April 19-20, 1979 George Coleman-tsx; Hilton Ruiz-p; Ray Drummond-b; Billy Higgins-d [a] Blues Inside Out George Coleman 11:30 Walking [sic] Carpenter 15:12 [c] Stella By Starlight Washington-Young 21:35 PYE LP N 121 I recall hearing part of it on Peter Clayton's Sunday night show not long after. Think it was Stella. Sat in a vault with Ronnies magnificent 'Serious Gold' I imagine. Ah, the glass is half empty I see. The PYE LP is certainly from the same visit. Pity the two parts can't be rejoined. Chico Freeman, The Unspoken Word here... another Ronnie Scott's gig.

Here's my list so far: http://open.spotify.com/user/davidayers/pl...y9p3D2UfHLANSZM I included anthologies as they often have tracks from albums I can't find (Wes Montgomery etc.) I don't have a list of JHCDs or JHAS to work from. The Archive Series are maybe the most interesting (U.S. musicians visiting in mid 60s, like the Stitt/Scott and Stitt dates, Golson and a few more... but like I say I can't find a discography. Some artists I didn't follow through on and might be there...

Several of those Ronnie Scott recordings floating around: Ronnie Scott with Sonny Stitt, The Night has a Thousand Eyes, from 1964 - three mega-long tracks! Benny Golson, Three Little Words, with house rhythm section, flawed single mic recording, good Golson on standards Peter King Quintet, Speed Trap, with Gerard Presencer - more recent this: I was there! and more if I can find them...

Sometimes strangely hit and miss. Of the BN 10" Conns, the McGhees and Frank Foster are there, the Salvador, Melle and Watkins not. Of the PJ Conns, Baker, Mulligan/Baker, Brookmeyer, Shank/Cooper, Anderza, Edwards - all there; rest not. No complaints - it's good that these hard-to-find titles are there!

Collective 4tet, Moving Along John Stevens, Live at the Plough lined up... The former is on Leo, who have a few titles on here, Braxton four CD sets included, and the latter is Ayler, not yet worked out how many or which of theirs is here.... Edited to add playlist of Ayler label on Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/user/davidayers/pl...JfJVnTX1VlKWXAO Edited again to add: noticing lots of holdings from Stunt Records on Spotify. One way in is to look up the numerous compilations (search on 'Stunt Records'). Too much work to make a complete list.... but, is this something we could work on using the 'collaborative playlist' function. Certainly a pity you can't search by label, but as I did with the Ayler label list maybe something to work on over time? For example, a Jazz in Paris listing? Or other less known labels like Ayler and Stunt and which lead into some lesser known artists it would be really fun to discover? Since Spotify is of Swedish origin I expect there will be other Swedish labels...

Mine's the euro-mosaic. I wonder if these short notice last chance situations occur because though a license might have some time to run the stock is low and the economics of re-pressing don't work, so a decision is taken to pull the plug. Either that or like the the famous Vee-Jay sets nobody notices the contract is expiring until the last minute! I notice that a few Mosaic sets are awaiting re-pressing so they may be tightening up to balance the books in thee hard times.

I've been mopping up titles in the Blue Note and Unheard Music Series, and other Atavistic titles I don't have. Also noting the large scale EMI classics presence. Lots to get through... dipped into the Hartmann symphonies cond. Metzmacher - don't know how much of that I can stand... Anyone made any purchases yet as a consequence of flirting with it on spotify? Hey - just a thought - can you access this playlist? http://open.spotify.com/user/davidayers/pl...FIHRR0IOMlXNcB2
