For those who don't read the small print... can be found at True Blue but not at Mosaic site. Doesn't seem to have its own packaging. This was the 7th disc in the Berigan set though chronologically from the middle (the Parlophone sessions are on a different licensing system than the others hence a separate disc). Contains some of the best music from the set. Bunny Berigan : The Complete Parlophone Sessions Once part of a larger Mosaic set, this single CD covers the three excellent and historically significant sessions that Berigan participated in during December 1935 for the British Parlophone label, all newly transferred with superior sound. #1-6: BUD FREEMAN AND HIS WINDY CITY FIVE: Bunny Berigan (tp), Bud Freeman (cl, ts), Claude Thornhill (p), Eddie Condon (g), Grachan Moncur (b), Cozy Cole (d). #7-13: MILDRED BAILEY AND HER ALLEY CATS: Bunny Berigan (tp), Johnny Hodges (as), Teddy Wilson (p), Grachan Moncur (b), Mildred Bailey (vcl). #14-18: BUNNY BERIGAN AND HIS BLUE BOYS: Bunny Berigan (tp), Edgar Sampson (cl, as), Eddie Miller (cl, ts), Cliff Jackson (b), Grachan Moncur (b), Ray Bauduc (d). Track Listing 1. What Is There To Say? 3:27 2. The Buzzard (take A) 3:00 3. The Buzzard (take B) 3:05 4. Tillie's Downtown Now (take A) 3:22 5. Tillie's Downtown Now (take B) 3:12 6. Keep Smilin' At Trouble 3:07 7. Willow Tree 3:21 8. Honeysuckle Rose (take A) 2:54 9. Honeysuckle Rose (take B) 2:57 10. Squeeze Me (take A) 3:03 11. Squeeze Me (take B) 3:00 12. Hm. I never fully understood the claim that 3 Sounds are kept OOP. I think that at least seven BN titles have been released in USA and at least another six in Japan only. I count 13 plus a Best Of. I know that people want things to be 'in print' and 'cheap', but isn't 'still findable' and 'not costing a fortune' good enough for those who are interested (as opposed to those who just want to hoover up a cheap 'collection'? I thought the older Sounds reissues didn't sell very well - they aren't popular - and that has been the reason for dropping them. Edited after a recount! What seven titles would that be? I certainly can't recall that many. Some of the later live releases were included in the "Roots of Acid Jazz" reissue wave. Yet those discs are not really from the classsic 3 Sounds era. Black Orchid and Standards may have also been US releases (although I seem to recall that they are European). I have only seen Japanese releases of all of the classic 3 Sounds records from the early years. That is what I have in mind. I can't answer for what you would include or not, but I counted using amazon to confirm my memory (amazon showed more). I actually wrote down the list though I don't have it to hand. What titles don't you think exist in either US or Japanese releases? Oh, the Japanese have released virtually everything, I believe, and some titles more than once. Yet I can recall no US releases of any of the classic early Three Sounds albums, which I think are their most representative and best work: Introducing, Bottoms Up, Good Deal, Feelin' Good, Moods, Here We Come, It Just Got to Be, Hey There. Ah - well I see what your point is, but mine was that it has nearly all been reissued and that anyone who wants it can buy it. That tends to make a Mosaic set less imperative. FWIW 'Introducing...' was a US release in the early days. Edited to add that the US issue of Introducing includes the whole of both volumes.

I've been thinking about this remark and I have to agree - you made a mistake. Sorry Jim. Hope that helps.

International Air Fare

What they said. Day and even time of travel are key, and flexibility on making a transfer a must. If you fall into your or their holiday times then the fare will likely be high... again, flexibility can definitely help. -

Monk Riverside set CHEAP on amazon
David Ayers replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I suppose it was a 'mistake' but you *are* right. Yes, it was a bargain, but not unlike the 2001 bargain two or three years ago, so it was possible. Does this mean that if I see a bargain on amazon I shouldn't order it because it isn't real? I guess basically someone just entered the wrong thing on the system. -

I don't know where you came up with this but it is not correct. People who have owned their home a long time do have lower assessed values due to the limitations imposed by Proposition 13 (no more than a 2% increase per year). Actual purchase price is not the basis for property taxes, assessed value (subject to the limitations of state law) is. Oh! I read an article about Proposition 13 which was mostly people moaning. Evidently I misunderstood or some of the complainants hadn't got it 100% right. That's a useful correction. -

Nice area - or not so nice now I guess. A lot of San Diego strikes me like that though - amazing and varied ecology covered in incongrouos developments. Maybe it's not surprising when nature strikes back? It's typically based on appraised value, and sq. footage is only one factor (number of bedrooms, baths, garage size). Appraised value tends to be roughly half market value. Property tax rates vary widely in the US, with some communities paying nearly nothing and poorer ones paying a much high proportion of the house value. It's very hard to compare council taxes, though I feel as if I paid more council tax in Cambridge than property tax in Chicago, certainly when you look at the value of the houses and what I got in return. One thing that is completely different in the US is that renters do not pay property taxes (not directly anyway) the way that they often pay council tax in the UK. And property owners get a much better deal in the US because they can offset property taxes against income taxes. I bitterly resented the fact that I kept falling between the tax regimes (UK and US) and got screwed each way. I would actually have been better off if the council tax was an income tax, since I could have applied it against US taxes. Instead I got nada, I didn't own the property, and Cambridge kept cutting back the services I did use, esp. refuse collection. In fact property taxes in CA are based on your actual purchase price. Some people pay very low taxes because they have owned their homes a long time. Businesses are the biggest benefactors as properties are owned by businesses and don't change hands even when the ownership is moved, so many commercial properties pay very low property tax. As for high HOAs, that's an issue I am trying to work out. I found a new development that offers comparatively low HOAs but maybe that is a sweetener that could easily change. It's true though, that's a big cost if I buy a condo (which is the idea - I don't think I could maintain a house very easily). -
Yeah I mailed them and just got a general answer about baskets expiring after 90 days. I had looked at it earlier that day soo that wasn't relevant. I mailed them back to ask if it could be restored. I suppose on most other websites you wouldn't bat an eye if this stuff happened but amazon has always seemed very reliable.

Good idea. I assume that prices will go down and are far from bottom. My observation from the last property 'correction' here is that cheaper properties lose a lower proportion of their value. Here it took four years for prices to reach bottom after the crash... uhhh, 'correction'. -

Close to the coast, I was thinking! -
Heh heh. I'd just edited mine down to under thirty items (uhhh - mostly by buying stuff...) then amazon edited it down to none... Just a wild stab in the dark, but do you have another browser you can sign in with???? I'll try. I tired. Mozilla opened the makeover version, IE had opened the old one. But my basket is missing in both... Thanks for the suggestion!

Moving across the pond, David? I like visiting San Diego so I am looking into property there. All a bit hypothetical.
