I followed the link then clicked to the home page. It told me 'You are visitor number 1 to this page'. Man, sure is quiet in here.

Let's hope EMI goes the same route.

What band would you like to see live?
David Ayers replied to Steve Reynolds's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Is he? Can you link me to any information? -
I'm glad to see the whole is on CD. Schuller also has several jazz influenced classical pieces, most of which I have never heard, although I have an LP of Seven Studies on Themes of Paul Klee which is good if not overwhelming. There are (I think) two Schuller compositions on the LP released as Vintage Dolphy. I listened to them again a few months ago but found them unconvincing.

The tracks with Ornette are on the Ornette box. There may have been a short-lived (Japanese?) CD of this but I'm not sure.

HaPpY bIrThDaY Upright Bill!
David Ayers replied to Free For All's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Happy Birthday! Try to stay upright...! -
How much influence did Trane have on the Impulse output? He certainly never seems to have gone overboard on trumpeters...
-
So... what were we talking about? Ah yes, the Mosaic Complete Incomplete Recordings of Schwitters Ursonate. The booklet with this will be awesome! A definite pre-order!

Che cavolo...

Am I right in thinking the b sample taken by the UCI proved positive? If so, where does this go now? And how valid is this new test? Anyone?
-
Yep. How do you think I made my first billion?

I am sure it has been on CD, but I don't have it and can't find a catalogue number...

Complete Capitol Recordings Krupa/James
David Ayers replied to wesbed's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
There is a Krupa Properbox (of the 40s material) which might either whet or sate your appetite for Krupa. -
I have (or have had) a good few of these, and I was just marvelling at how many had still not made it to CD since the reissue, or had only been issued in Japan. Here is what I think is a complete list: Art Blakey Indestructible! Good point - maybe I should have listed those.

Based on Mike Fitzgerald's site, I'd say the candidates are these, and one or two can be easily ruled out (Dona Lee [sic] already on CD, the Bley blocked by Coleman, the Ayler, whatever that is, licensed from Fantasy, the Coursil already on CD): 6098 Art Ensemble Of Chicago Certain Blacks 1970 6099 Archie Shepp & Chicago Beau Black Gipsy 1969 6100 Albert Ayler Free Jazz Fantasy 6016 1963 6102 Archie Shepp & Philly Joe Jones Archie Shepp & Philly Joe Jones 1969 6103 Archie Shepp Coral Rock 1970 6104 Frank Wright Quartet Uhuru Na Umoja 1970 6106 Archie Shepp Pitchin Can 1969,70 6108 Noah Howard & Frank Wright Space Dimension 1970 6111 Jacques Coursil Black Suite 1969 6112 Arthur Jones Scorpio 1969 6113 Clifford Thornton The Panther And The Lash 1970 6114 Roswell Rudd Featuring John Tchicai 1965 6115 Dave Burrell After Love 1970 6116 Art Ensemble Of Chicago Phase One 1971 6118 Alan Shorter Tes Esat 6120 Paul Bley The Fabulous Paul Bley Quintet 1958 6121 Paul Bley Improvisie 1971 6122 Anthony Braxton Dona Lee 1972 6123 Robin Kenyatta Free State Band 1972 6125 Steve Lacy Quintet The Gap 1972 6144 Chick Corea Quartet 1971 011-012 Anthony Braxton Saxophone Improvisations, Series F [2LP] 1972

The TV news a few days ago said that music companies over here were trying to get European copyright laws regarding sound recordings changed. What worries them is not the end of copyright on jazz recordings (not a big earner) but on rock and roll (big bucks). This is of concern to UK too, as Britain is biggest supplier of repertoire after US - they have less than a decade before early Beatles comes out of copyright. It was thought that it would be difficult to change the attitudes of enough European countries who don't stand to benefit and whose legal tradition habitually distinguishes between copyright in the composition and that in the recording in a fairly dramatic fashion. In fact here's a link: LINK!

I'd say the Mobley is a priority among the older sets, and the Jazztet a priority among the newer ones. I don't think any of the Selects are a priority.
-
Well, those boffins sure fooled me. I thought he was real!
-
Those pesky Europeans and their issues of {large image of US flag removed - it was annoying me} music. Free America - that's what I say.

Am I the only person who can't open these? A few years ago I could open some and not others. For years now I can't open any. I just get an error message saying I have no access to the location. Anyone else get this?

Is there a website for Chronological Classics?
David Ayers replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Thanks for the links. I still really wish the chronogical [sic] guys would set up a site though! -

I thought not. You would think it would help sell CDs! Oh well - thanks.
