Well I agree with that. And I sure as hell don't get any fun or pleasure out of buying product with a STOP THIEF label on it.

Mulligan, Patton, Chambers
David Ayers replied to Free For All's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
You are right Stephan, so it is worth correcting me! However it also sort of bears out my point, that the marketing on some of these sets is as much about getting people to rebuy things they already have and to lure them with an album or two they don't. Also lets be aware that single disc releases of the previously unreleased titles may follow. This Patton set is aimed directly at people who already have some of the material. Those people don't get very much extra because the set is not in any way 'complete'. Anyway, its down to preference. Personally I wouldn't (usually...) buy a set just to get one LPs worth. In any case when such sets are released it often releases vinyl copies on to the market! -
Congratulations to me...

Thank you all very much! Some very good advice in there as well... When I get back maybe I will post some of the wedding photos... if you're lucky! -
Actually there may be a slght problem with the music, in that the rest in the music seems to be a shade longer due to the inclusion of the cue point. That may be a false impression however.

And I'm too lazy to read this thread. Will somebody tell me what it says?

The TOCJ of Sonic Boom contains only Sonic Boom. The second session of the is on the TOCJ of Procrastinator but NOT on the Conn. That second session is added to Sonic Boom. Perhaps that is why they are changing the cover but I think they should have stuck with the original.

Well we have been together a while and it is time to do the decent thing. Hurrah!

Thanks for posting this. But I am too lazy to look at it. Can anybody tell me what it looks like?

David Ayers replied to Free For All's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I wish the Patton and Chambers sets had something to add. I prefer the archival spirit of Mosaic to the convenient re-reissue 3-pack. The Carmell Jones was very welcome - there should be more like that. The Grachan Moncur was the least creditable since it offered one album new-to-CD as a draw to those who had the other titles. At least the Patton and Chambers, by offering nothing new, aren't as cynical as the Moncur. Still, the CJB is a good and welcome release so perhaps I shouldn't moan! -

How much of the Chambers is new to CD? I think I have it all already. As with the Patton I am just a bit bored by this return to recently released material. -
I also like that DG are hip to Brit jazz - touting releases from the likes of Ian Carr, Don Rendell, Tubby Hayes and so on. Obviously I can get mine here in England - but YOU lot should be getting them from DG!

The US McMaster issue has the wrong cue points, as you described. They are all like that, AFAIK.

Shrdlu I think early records has lower prices and charges less shipping - am I worng? Soul Stream The BN titles listed at DG as in paper sleeve are the JRVGs.

I had an email from John Taylor today. I had written to him asking to be reminded who had been on the bill at a gig I heard him at in my early years of jazzthusiasm. Back in 1981 or 82 the line up had been Wheeler, Parker, Taylor, Jenny-Clarke, Motian. The date was at Leeds University and was a major eye-opener for me. Taylor has been taking care of business and spreading the word for a long time over here and it is good to know he is still going strong.

Well for sure http://www.earlyrecords.com is your best bet. You can communicate with Hiroshi Tanno by email and pay by paypal. He can order in any in print item, but remember that titles go OP fast in Japan. His shipping charges are certainly the lowest.

Looks like most of these are in jewel cases. An added novelty.

... inexplicably, this fragment Nas ne dogonyat! Nas ne dogonyat! With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls. Feel the force! Feel the force! Feel the force! FWIW you can examine other pages by altering the final digits (but not by following links). Am I the last to figure this out?

Sell your Ultimate Blue Train, it's obsolete
David Ayers replied to Soul Stream's topic in Re-issues
I thought so. It sounds pretty authentic. -
Returns policy is a major issue, and we would all do well to ask retailers about returns policy before purchasing any disk. The simple answer is not to buy and to write to EMI. A decisive boycott at this stage could prove more effective than the courts. Even if a copy controlled disk you have bought works on the machine you try it on it may well not work on the next machine you use - and you can't take it back when it fails to work five years from now. After all, they warned you - it might not work.

Universal Music to Cut CD Prices to Under $13
David Ayers replied to Claude's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I hope this comes to Europe. In the UK a full price CD costs £16+ i.e. $24. Even if you can afford it, it still feels like too much, and as a psychological threshold it is set very high. On the other hand a mid price sells for £10+ ($15) and they shift like Prince Charles rubber masks on Bonfire Night. It will be interesting to see if this works - I hope it does, though lower price points may not help independents. -
Sell your Ultimate Blue Train, it's obsolete

The cassette I made from someone else's LP is in pretty good sound too - do I need to replace it?
