  1. Did you delete your thread?
  2. A word of caution on the Enrico Rava. I had this, found it underpowered, and sold it. It all sounds safe and a bit limp. Obviously Rudd fans who haven't heard it will seek it out, but I would suggest not paying too much for it...
  3. Mohawk? Well, Rudd is co-leader, I suppose. One of my favorites of all time.
  4. I suspect that any list won't be very stable, since it depends on distribution and that will vary from country to country. It seems likely that they press fairly short runs and don't hold huge numbers in warehouses, so we can imagine that the tide is going to roll over us very quickly.
  5. Uh... looks like ubu already confirmed it. It seems that new batches are having it added. Nice one. PS we should also note that gigolo's linked report from hi-fi.org seems to confirm that the copy protection system DOES impact on sound quality.
  6. Or from Early Records - it will be cheaper.
  7. Hm... what is this huge wad of cash in my pocket? Oh yes... it is all the money I save by not buying EMI Jazz CDs any more. To be more serious... I haven't yet seen any old titles with Copy Protection added, and I am waiting to see further confirmation.
  8. When you say the middle of the country I think you are forgetting something... So, if it has to be the middle of the world... that would be Greenwich, just up the road from me. See you guys there an about an hour, say?
  9. OUCH!! Keep us posted...
  10. BNBB? What's that? Thanks Jim!!
  11. The JRVG of True Blue has been reissued - time to drop Hiroshi Tanno a line, for those who don't have it.
  12. OK OK OK I give in. No, I don't have it.
  13. UK buyers can find this one in HMV for £6 ($9).
  14. I haven't spent enough time with Japanese LP covers to know how they differ but cramming your records too tight on the shelves is nothing but trouble. I imagine that the problem could have been avoided by storing the LPs under less pressure. In my case, probably true. That said, it is *only* the rice inners that gave me this problem.
  15. I don't recommend rice. The Artist's House LPs were supplied in this supposedly elite material. Under pressure, which is how most LPs are stored, they can stick to the LP and bugger up the surface.
  16. However... I read recently that no kind of polythene inner sleeve was recommended for long term preservation of vinyl as it is water retentive and ultimately damages the record.
  17. Maybe he's just learned some manners?
  18. I didn't realise that you were supposed to actually listen to these... Jamey Aebersold -- II-V7-I Progression. . . LP . . . $9.99 (Item: 46464) Just Reduced! JA, 1978 Condition: Very Good+ View Cart One of many fine records cut for the Jamey Aebersold label of jazz improvisation/instruction albums -- and one that features some excellent piano work by Dan Haerle. The piano is all acoustic, but it's got a freely soulful feel that makes the album way more than just a jazz instruction album -- and the best cuts have a tight trio groove and lots of nice bass work by Rufus Reid. Titles include "G Minor Blues", "Bebop Tune", "F Blues with An 8 Bar Bridge", "II V7 I", "II V7", and "0 V7 9". (Includes the instruction booklet.)
  19. If this line of thought is to be pursued, an analysis of why the majority of cultured and intelligent people find jazz boring or of limited interest would also need to be put in place. Also, if we don't ourselves keep up on concert music, opera, theatre, art exhibitions, fiction and poetry pretty much anything we say about people who don't like jazz applies to us too.
  20. The JRVG of The Golden 8 is due out on 22nd October.
  21. Wow, that's a stroke of luck if I've ever seen one. That damn "handling fee" that Canada Post charges on Mosaic orders (and others) really pisses me off; the shipping charge should deliver the package straight to your door, but no, let's tack on another five bucks just for kicks. Free trade, my ass! What about the Mosaic 'handling fee'? I don't know how it affects you guys, but my last shipment from Mosaic cost me $12 S&H surface - actual cost of postage, $4.50. Sometimes when I check surface they ship by air (about $9 on a small package, still less than they charge me). Actually, I think its a pretty big mark up, and really goes back to the days when they sold mainly LPs. A $7.50 mark up on a $50 order - that's 15%. Nice work if you can get it. No wonder the Canadian Post want to get a pice of that action.
  22. Nice one guys. Sherlock of the week award to all of you!
  23. Jimmy Smith BBC Interview
  24. While we are on Hill, remember that the JRVG of Judgment! is now available. Black Fire and Smoke Stack are due in February, with only Black Fire scheduled for US/Euro release. I know people are recommending late 60s Hill and accessible Hill etc, and perhaps taking for granted the Mosaic box, but I would suggest to newcomers that these three titles are among the best of Hill, and that two of them may not come round again in a while.
