  1. What I mean is, people who want CDs expect to pay a low price. That low price point reduces the incentive to make them. Vinyl, on the other hand...
  2. Mr Moneybags! If the price point for CDs is so low now it isn’t worth producing them. Would you pay the double LP price? If not, why not?
  3. Indeed. Just checking this out on Discogs. I ditched the Da Music CD I had though I wish I hadn't. Also hadn't clocked that the Fontana Blood with Marte Roling sleeve is an entirely different LP. I don't have either of the Bley Fontana's and - well, I'm getting itchy...
  4. Although the CD I had of that was in poor sound... I like the cover which I have never seen before!
  5. Out of print? Maybe not that many copies made it to that region? I'd never seen that cover of Porto Novo! My LP is the Arista US issue.
  6. Well, we don't have a classical new releases thread, so I created this to mention the new Shostakovich 4 from the LSO with Gianandrea Noseda. I was there for one of the concerts recorded here. The recording is vivid and visceral, and recalls the stunning concert. The earlier LSO Live recordings were a bit soft-grained to say the least, so I am mentioning this recording to alert anyone who tends to overlook this series that THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
  7. Here's something we need to ask Allen about. Allen! TDT is on Spotify - some of it - and some of it is there but blanked out. So...what's with that...?
  8. I support Allen. It seems that people who habitually mock others for having their “trigger points” often have trigger points of their own, so the mere use of the word appropriation creates a fire storm in their minds. No room for irony. Delicate souls. Carry on, Allen.
  9. David Torn, Sun of Goldfinger (ECM)
  10. I’m waiting for a Merzbow playalomg.
  11. That discussion does not look at the impact of shipping or visiting stores. Anyway...
  12. That’s how I used to find those Jamie Aebersold LPs. It was like those guys had NO IDEA what I was playing.
  13. Pfui. In the line-up Brotzmann, Gustafsson, Vandermark, it is KV who attends to the task of holding the music together. He's also become a great blower, bit like one of those ‘bar walkers and honkers’.
  14. It’s a blast from the past, plus plus plus! Ha! Still got the cassette. No cassette player though since I changed cars, so...
  15. I miss my 6-cd changer in the trunk. Safer and less hassle than in the dash. My current car can take ONE cd, which is just boring.
  16. Well for sure. With me it is overexposure I am worried about. So many concerts feature a piano concerto, often a warhorse. I quite like to hear them fresh, and in any case am not fond of them, so I have cut out the recorded ones, more or less, so as not to get bored. My next concert includes Rachmaninov 1, which I admit I can’t remember. After that, Tchaikovsky 1, which I can’t forget. After that, Shostakovich 2, Liszt 2 - you get the idea.
  17. Surely not the last word, but one to think about maybe? https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/theconversation.com/amp/the-environmental-impact-of-music-digital-records-cds-analysed-108942
  18. Just listening now. Apart from the fact that I dislike listening to recorded piano concertos, this is...not for everyone...
  19. Gould is not for everyone...
  20. Anybody else been spending time with this box?
  21. To make my own position clear: I really don’t care what disappears. I just listen to what is there, and I figure that labels and artists will mostly conclude that they need to be there. That said, some stuff does go awol, and (maybe) at a certain point some users would be irked by that. Oh and missing tracks - don’t get me started...
