"your 10 year old copy sound now" Should read sounds now, of course. -
Audio Degradation with Digital Copies?
Ted O'Reilly replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Audio Talk
I think the question is not whether your 10 year old copy sound now, or will sound good years from now, but whether or not a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy will sound good today.... -
Using the Lord 6.0 discography as a reference, Al Hibbler seems not to have ever recorded it. Joya Sherrill did it a lot, and the Kirk album version is instrumental.

I'm sure you didn't think it was a jazz saxophone player, though....

Thanks. Please feel free to remove this item from the forum.

I've not seen it mentioned anywhere that the new governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, is the son of jazz musician Laurdine "Pat" Patrick, known for his long stint with Sun Ra and others. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Patrick And isn't it neat that there's a politician who may know about the Blues, rather than giving us the blues? (And on a slightly different topic, the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, is the son of a major jazz fan, the late Joe Harper, a member of the Duke Ellington Society's Toronto chapter).

What Holiday Music Are You Spinninng Now
Ted O'Reilly replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Given there's a lot of tradition involved with Christmas, I like 'traditional jazz' things like "Christmas with the New Black Eagle Jazz Band" (Daring Records CD 3025); and the old LP by The World's Greatest Jazz Band (led by Yank Lawson and Bob Haggart) "Hark The Herald Angels Swing" (World Jazz WJLP-S-2). You ain't heard nuttin' if you ain't heard Vic Dickenson and Gus Johnson sing Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer! -
I've just heard that clarinetist Kenny Davern died of a heart attack last night...looking for more information.

Sad, sad news. In 20+ years of weekly recording of artists at Toronto's Cafe des Copains and then Montreal Bistro, I recorded Jay at least 30 times (and listened to him at least a hundred). Whether as a soloist, duo with bass, trio, quartet or big band, he never failed to lift the room, and my spirits. I'd have dinner with him on almost every occasion. He was a lovely man -- warm and generous of spirit. I'll miss him, and so will the world of jazz, though he (and his style of music) was woefully underappreciated by the hipnocracy.

Duke Ellington live video 1965 / Perdido
Ted O'Reilly replied to slide_advantage_redoux's topic in Artists
youmustbe: youmustmean "Shiny Stockings", not "Silk Stockings" of course.... (And, it's a much better tune than "Satin Doll". A LOT better....) -
That's a great quotation. Could you supply the source, please? (Document! Document!!)

What are your most important audio/hi-fi considerations?
Ted O'Reilly replied to BeBop's topic in Audio Talk
Replying in the briefest, most-generalized way, I'd say "speakers". They're the only part of the chain that you really hear. I've always spent half the budget for the whole system on the speakers. -
Your favorite TENOR player on the scene today
Ted O'Reilly replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Artists
I'd like to mention the Canadian tenor man Mike Murley. You're missing something if you've never heard him. -
Out of the Cool CD .... liner notes errors

I wouldn't mind Stereo either, but the music wouldn't be any different, would it? That's what important. It only matters when Mono and Stereo releases had different takes on them....and that happened quite frequently.

It's just a number sequence I was showing a pre-schooler who is learning about clocks and calendars. Personally, I like the scientific method, for clarity. The date in question would be 2006.04.05, 01:02:03. It wouldn't happen twice that day, as twelve hours later it would be 13:02:03.
-
Very early Wednesday morning this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1, the time and date will be 01:02:03, 04/05/06. That won't ever happen again.

Okay, tried to watch it again and actually read that it's a SOUNDIE! They were printed backwards on the film since they were projected onto a mirror then onto the back of a screen for viewing, not completely unlike today's rear-projection TVs. 'Twas an optical delulsion....
-
Well, for some reason I can't get the sound to work, but that hardly matters, and is probably explained by: everything is BACKWARDS! The bass athlete is left-handed, the marimbas and vibes have the low/long bars on the right instead of the left, etc. Weird even without the music.....

If you added another consonant he might be more likely to come back. -_- ← Oops. But the joke, such as it is, works a little better with only one "L". I'm very late in making this note, but y'all should be aware that there is an active Swiss jazz vibraphone player by the name of Kurt Weil--one "L", so no joke after all. (He's very good, BTW. One "L", that is. Two "L" is too, of course...

Is there any way to turn off the flashing/jumping/rotating Member Icons? I find them to be 100% interesting the first time I see them, then increasingly distractive when I'm trying to read the posting. I'd just like to stop the action once I've seen it.

This seems to be material that is in the public domain in Europe (pre 1955). So don't expect the reissues to come from the original master tapes. says Claude... It looks to me like Membran waits until EMI or Columbia or Mosaic releases well-done discs from masters, then simply uses that material to issue their discs. I didn't check each of their releases, but a cursory glance makes me think it has all been on CD before. Lone Hill, Definitive--all of them--do the same thing. 100% per cent legal there (if perhaps morally vague), but I've always been surprised that they can sell that "rip-off" material in the US (and Canada), where it wouldn't be allowed.
