I second Oliv & Familie aka John Stevens Spontaneous Music Ensemble (Marmalade). Desert island music. Transitions on Emanem with Caroline Kraabel and Charlotte Hug is fantastic. Live At The Bastille with Joelle Leandre & Lindsay Cooper Alfred Harth's This Earth on ECM Two with Irene Schweizer: Live At Taktlos (two tracks) and Storming Of The Winter Palace Iskra 1912 - Sequences 72 & 73 (two long pieces) a piece on LJCO's Three Pieces For Orchestra (one piece) I have long been intrigued by this 1994 tape from a group with Marcio Mattos, Roland Ramanan, and Michael Garcia but have never been able to track down a trace of it: https://www.discogs.com/release/11718184-Wooden-Taps-Wooden-Taps

Fully delivers. An incredible disc, easily one of the most exciting and unexpected archive releases in years. Per Peter Margarask: "On the horizon in the series is a late 1980s solo performance and recordings from the Feminist Improvising Group—the radical ensemble formed by Maggie Nicols and Lindsay Cooper, which included the pianist for most of its history—the first officially released document of the ensemble’s work."

Just don't let those auction house ghouls ever get ahold of your collection!

Really looking forward to this one, big fan of those Shipp String Trio albums. -

Yeah, you tend to have to look at the fine print. -
Mosaic Select of Carter/Bradford Revelation 1970s music

Nope, wholly different unreleased studio session from 1979. Maybe not as transcendent as the Emanem material, but well worth having. -
He was essentially the house drummer for CIMP and graces many of those discs. All that I've heard have been elevated by him. He also led a few dates -- Canticles For the New Millennium with Vinny Golia, Paul Smoker, and Mark Whitecage is especially good. He also played on the Joseph Scianni dates. Another that I'd call out beyond what's been mentioned here is CutItOut, an awesome 2006 Leo disc with Gebhard Ullman & Chris Dahlgren. edit: one more that just came to mind, from CIMP: Slaves of Job alongside Dominic Duval to make a trio with Ivo Perelman. One of IP's strongest recordings from the days before he was firehosing them.

Horace Tapscott & Pan Afrikan People Arkestra - Live at IUCC 11/2678 2CD

I was really looking forward to those ones, but stopped holding out much hope after awhile. Hopefully they can still get them out. -
A bit about his daughter from the great documentary Denis A. Charles: An Interrupted Conversation: (also some invaluable footage of the BMC trio)

WXU sold the Hat catalogue to outnow before he was able to reissue the live portion of Willisau. I believe he may still be in possession of at least one quartet concert that he could reissue as First Visit if he so chooses.

I haven't felt compelled to pick any of these up since I already have most of the BYG catalog, but I saw a couple of the CD titles in person recently and they do look like very nice packages.

The missing tracks were damaged on the master tape.

Very sad news. One of the best.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
colinmce replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Sounds great. I will have to look up the livestream of that one. -
You will definitely want that one.
-
Likewise, a few titles here I've wanted to pick up over the years but haven't had the chance stateside.
-
They have a habit of listing things as "new" when they are just restocking them. Possible these were re-pressed recently, but they get semi-regular reups on Ogun titles, just looks like they are re-filling more broadly this time. That said, nothing really new here. But I hope this means they will stock them regularly.

Phenomenal record. The expanded duo with Jenkins is nice to have, but this session is the jewel. I think had it been released at the time it would be held in high regard among dates of the era.

Michael Gregory Jackson w. Hemphill, Wadud, AkLaff
colinmce replied to mjazzg's topic in New Releases
The CD is nice enough-- a thin gatefold digipack with a photo and words by MGJ. The sound quality is more than passable. The music is very surprising, much less "loft" than a lot of what was happening, really almost a couple decades advanced and at many points more like something you would hear coming from FMP at that time. Very intense, very interactive. -

It was a great performance. -

CD just showed up today, I'm looking forward to it. May have listened to the initial digital once or twice but don't remember it. A friend had talked with MGJ at that time about getting this out physically; that petered out but I'm glad someone else stepped in. -
BFT 252 discussion: a couple hours of musical enjoyment
colinmce replied to clifford_thornton's topic in Blindfold Test
Booker T. actually has a new recording out. I've given it a couple listens and enjoy it. https://mahakalamusic.bandcamp.com/album/ode-to-bc-ly-and-eye-know-bo-da-prez Likewise, I've been listening to this BFT on & off all month and really enjoying it, and should really try to work up some ramblings for the thread before it's too late. -
Gave this a couple listens on streaming, and it's much stronger than I might've assumed. Great stuff. I'll pick up the CDs soon.
