  1. Me too. But not in £!
  2. Per Arts For Art. RIP.
  3. Pre-order? I haven't been able to find it currently in stock anywhere.
  4. I've always wanted to upgrade my Jazz Abstractions to a standalone Japanese issue. Such a great album and wonderful cover in a sleeve that just looks like crap. Not to mention it's paired with a pretty useless record.

    Anthony Braxton

Well the 12xCD Duets box is currently available for $85, which seems quite reasonable to me.
  6. You've convinced me to pick it up. Also am a diehard Midwesterner who's homesick so that sways me too!
  7. Though it resembles the CDs from the box, this one is not part of it. It was recorded a month earlier. I purchased a copy from Dusty Groove for $30 but was too late.. someone else had grabbed it. Curses. I've never seen it offered for less than $100.
  8. Few can caress a tune like Michael Moore.
  9. All power to them, but still can't get with dls. I am still holding out for the actual box in this lifetime, but have started grabbing the individual discs.
  10. "Bilbao Song --> Restless In Pieces ---> Love Henry", Clusone Trio.
  11. Thanks Allen. Thought-provoking as always. I agree that we haven't fully dealt with this sort of post-historical condition/milieu, in jazz or in other areas.
  12. Fantastic news on many fronts, one of which is more Tomeka on record.
  13. You're correct. I bought the Lou Donaldson one. I like these albums enough to want to hear them sometimes, but not enough to shell out for OOP Japanese CDs or the OOP Mosaic. I have seen a few others that look tempting, but I don't plan on getting any more. For one thing, the music is just there in a big mass which makes it difficult to sort out what you're listening to; plus the contents are misidentified in the "notes". Beyond the ethical concerns, this is what makes these types of sets a poor experience in my book.
  14. Yes, I got it from Mars yesterday at a Harrison Bankhead concert put on by Lazaro Vega. Thanks. I was aware of the group and have been waiting for something to come out.
  15. Is that Blue Lights disc a new one?
  16. I saw them but once in '02. It was indeed a great show. Love them to pieces.
  17. I missed a cheap copy once. It's on the shortlist for my I-swear-it'll-happen-one-day $150 Emanem order.
  18. Finally managed to catch it in stock at DG. I think MD lists it as OOP over at the label.
  19. Carter/Bradford - No U Turn Parker/Guy/Lytton - At The Vortex
  20. Looks good. I didn't see a link to an actual Kickstarter. Not up yet?
  21. Steve said he liked it but most didn't. I honestly haven't been through it enough to form an opinion.
  22. YEAH. Good for you, xybert! I'm not even a Steve Coleman fan -- I'm not really familiar with his music -- but I'm glad that you're sticking up for him!!! Sheesh, a simple article about Steve Coleman -- and suddenly there's a big storm of HATE -- about the artist and the writer. Good grief, people! To be fair, I don't think anyone is hating on Steve Coleman. I don't see that anywhere. As for the writer: broken clock, etc.
  23. Maybe Nate Chinen feels like he has a well-developed personal taste. That's very sad for him if he thinks he does.
  24. I don't want to turn this into a counter-productive bitching session, but I just can't help myself. I hate the NYT too much. Big surprise Pi-- the one founded by Wall Street millionaires*-- gets the direct line to the paper. They wouldn't have it any other way. Do they know any other way? *nothing against them. Great label, assuming they're great guys. In short, though, Larry has it: times have changed. Organic personal taste is a dying art, no more so than in the press. It's sold in bulk lots now.
