  1. Yeah. Mosaic was planning a Single edition of this one.
  2. I did. I try to avoid ordering from overseas because of the wait, but I have had some things come very quickly in the past as well.
  3. Double-checking, I placed my order March 4.
  4. FWIW I ordered with Clean Feed (Portugal) 3 weeks ago and have yet to receive my CDs.
  5. I hope to begin making some shows in Houston in a couple years once my son gets older and I (hopefully!) get a more flexible job. Enjoy this one!
  6. To me, the ace in the hole is Tony Williams. His inclusion was a stroke of genius that makes the date more than it would have been with any other drummer Hill had associated with thus far (though Roy Haynes & Elvin Jones both brought something special to his music, Haynes in particular). I go back & forth re: Kenny Dorham, though. On the one hand her serves the music in his own way, but in another I can't help but imagine what it would have been with Woody Shaw in his place.
  7. I would call that more 90s than 80s. There is a difference and it's gruesome.

    Anthony Braxton

I was until they moved from $7.99/month to $100/year. If I could break that up over months I would do it but I don't really have $100 to blow at once. I'm sure there's a good reason they did it that way, but it's a little frustrating.
  9. Just sounds like Chicago. Makes me feel at home.

    Anthony Braxton

Scheduled for release this year: Trio (New Haven) 2013, a 4-CD set of Braxton performing with two of contemporary improvisation’s leading drummers, Tom Rainey and Tomas Fujiwara. 12 Duets (DCWM) 2012, 12-CD set presenting Braxton in dialogue with three distinctive duet partners: violinist Erica Dicker, vocalist Kyoko Kitamura and bassoonist Katherine Young. 3 Compositions (EEMHM) 2011, a 3-CD set documenting Braxton’s newest composition system, Echo Echo Mirror House Music, featuring Braxton’s long-running septet with Taylor Ho Bynum (brass), Jessica Pavone (viola), Mary Halvorson (guitar), Jay Rozen (tuba), Carl Testa (bass) and Aaron Siegel (percussion) to be released from Firehouse 12 Records.
  12. It occurred to me the other day that Moran hasn't released a leader date since 2010. Very unusual!
  13. Intakt is a label I wish I had more from. Quite pricy unfortunately ....
  14. One of my favorites. The last CD I bought at an actual record store almost 4 years ago
  15. A couple: Jason Roebke Octet - High/Red/Center (Delmark) Adasiewicz, Ward, Jackson, Stein, Berman, Bishop, Reed Assif Tsahar/Mark Dresser/Gerry Hemingway - Code Re(a)d (Hopscotch)
  16. Helen Merrill, too. I sort of gave up on that one.
  17. Hm, wow. I'm almost certain my copy is an A/B, but I should probably go check!
  18. I have practically never seen one of these that wasn't a cut-out, no. I think first-run sales for some titles must have run in the dozens, or even less. It's also rare to find copies of the first two Braxton Aristas that aren't promos.
  19. Agreed with Leeway. The Fire Into Music group is a particularly good place to start. They also have a limited LP that can still be found. Two other recent recordings worth checking out are Max Johnson Quartet (MJ, Swell, Mark Whitecage, Tyshawn Sorey) and Dragonfly Breath (Swell, Paul Flaherty, C Spencer Yeh, Weasel Walter). Both are on Not Two. The former is more straightforward & compositional while the later is full-bore, no compromises free improv.
  20. The fate of most Arista/Freedom LPs it seems.
  21. I only have Matador & The Bull. It's a burning, exciting record, but I fully understand where Jim is coming from. I don't feel particularly compelled to check out his other stuff at this point, but I sure dig the hell out of that record when I'm playing it.
  22. I found his clean feed to be pretty dry, but the Consort In Motion album is tremendous to me. Paul Motion is his ideal collaborator. Still would like to check out the Hat albums with Gerald Cleaver in the drummer's chair.
  23. I love what of his I've heard-- need to actually pick up copies of the records.
  24. My wife got a song ringtone from itunes. One-time fee of about a dollar. Seems like the way to go.
