  1. PM on 2 Dyani, Bynum/Fujiwara
  2. I am lucky enough to replace these two treasured albums with original copies, so I am offering them for sale. Free shipping in the US, overseas at cost. Jimmy Lyons/Sunny Murray Trio - Jump Up (hatART, 1979) CD. Good shape. This is the only copy (1994 ed.) with two sets of notes; both essays are very nice. Also features one track not on the original release. IMO one of the very great jazz albums of all time, and pricy in any format. $12 Ornette Coleman Double Quartet - Free Jazz (Atlantic reissue) LP. Glossy cover, crisp corners, practically unplayed. $8 PayPal preferred, though I will accept other forms of payment. Thanks for looking.
  3. It's always a special day when this one comes out.
  4. I absolutely adore Sara Serpa. She has made two records with Ran Blake that rival (IMO) his work with Jeanne Lee, though the two are very different. Both albums are equally sublime-- Camera Obscura (Inner Circle, 2010) & Aurora (Clean Feed, 2012). Her own quintet, with which she works in vocalese, is a thing of beauty. Mobile (Inner Circle, 2012) is the latest and best. I can't wait for her next release. Here is her take on "When Sunny Gets Blue" with Ran, which was performed by Lee on Newest Sound Around in 1962. http://saraserpa.bandcamp.com/track/when-sunny-gets-blue
  5. RIP
  6. Good to know. I'm in regardless, but 50 should be a breeze.
  7. Thanks. I've had a few scores with Hastings, though it's hard. Can't say I've ever had an ounce of luck on SecondSpin, though ...
  8. ....Reckless & Dusty Groove? I don't think I've come across any others. I think Amoeba posts some things, but certainly not everything. DMG does but their prices generally suck.
  9. So if you reach x amount of preorders you can proceed?
  10. As a side note, the 9th ed. is OOP and majorly pricy on the secondhand market. A real shame.
  11. It's discussed a bit here: Clifford's review here: http://www.pointofdeparture.org/PoD42/PoD42Artmosis.html
  12. http://onpoint.wbur.org/2013/11/20/the-flair-and-flash-of-charlie-parkers-lightning Crouch was on On Point yesterday talking about the book.
  13. Yes. These are two of my favorite records of the last several years. Really special music that rewards much re-listening.
  14. Yes, this one is great. The CD has two wonderful trio cuts with Roy Brooks & Cecil McBee. More of that here:
  15. PM on Brotzmann 10tet & Ken McIntyre.
  16. It's not my favorite McPhee either, FWIW...
  17. You may change your mind over time. It exists in a completely different context from his later work. You could say Tenor is one big huge press of the reset button.
  18. Stupid, awful, pointless.
  19. Yes, apparently (re: Blake). Looks like something close to a self-release/local label thing, so I hope that happens. I agree with the prickly mr. Blue Train, though ... not too interesting. I hope they follow up with more before long. FWIW I'm simply assuming that Garden, Santa Cruz 1993, and Willisau 1991 ain't ever comin'. Best to stop holding your breath there.
  20. After a year without new releases and several setbacks, a new batch is ready: http://www.hathut.com Several ART titles, a reissue of Ayler - Lorrach, and new ones from Powelchsel, Joe Morris, and Wintsch/Weber/Wolfarth.
  21. You've gotta get your hands on I've Known Rivers w/ James Newton & Abdul Wadud
  22. Two more recent Kidd Jordan releases I've come across: A Night in November w/ Hamid Drake (Valid) http://www.amazon.com/Night-November-Live-New-Orleans/dp/B00F4B2PMQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1384396870&sr=1-1&keywords=kidd+jordan Vita Brevis w/ Borah Bergman, William Parker & Michael Wimberly (Some Real Music) http://www.amazon.com/vita-brevis-Borah-Bergman/dp/B00EOVUFL0/ref=sr_1_6?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1384396895&sr=1-6&keywords=kidd+jordan
  23. Booker Ervin - The Book Cooks (Affinity/Bethlehem) Kevin Whitehead reviewed the new reissue on Fresh Air yesterday.
  24. I need to check out more of his stuff. Any one in particular?
